Paul Mescal: A stranger “F ** king Rude” told me he had a screenshot of me blank

Apparently some people liked Paul MescalHer hot sex scenes in “Normal People” a little too much.

The Lost Daughter star reflected on the sexualization she experienced after starring in the hit 2020 Hulu miniseries in a GQ profile posted Monday..

In the adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People, Mescal played the shy Connell, who has a complicated, years-long romance with his classmate Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones). The show was praised for her realistic and intimate sex scenes that featured both Mescal and Edgar-Jones completely naked.

Although the miniseries made the refreshing, albeit controversial, decision to show the bad sides of its female and male characters, the unconventional move brought much discomfort to the Irish actor.

The “God’s Creatures” star told GQ that he had an incredibly inappropriate encounter with a woman who watched “Normal People” while out with a group of her friends in Ireland. He noticed in the magazine that the woman was at a bachelorette party and stopped to inform him that she had taken a blank screenshot of “Normal People” — and even asked if she could take a picture with him.

“I didn’t think the show was good, but I saw you Willy and I have a picture!” Mescal remembered the stranger telling him.

“I remember it was the first time I was really angry. I said, “That’s bloody rude!” It’s embarrassing for you, it’s embarrassing for me, it’s embarrassing for my friends, and now I have to say no.”

It is not the first time that Mescal expresses the discomfort he felt after the miniseries.

He told Elle in 2020 that he felt “targeted after ‘Normal People.’

“It’s to be expected, given the intimacy of my scenes, but it doesn’t make it any easier,” she told Elle at the time. “I don’t dare read some of the intense DMs I get.”
