Despite Matthew Perry’s best wishes, Keanu Reeves is alive and kicking as an elite killing machine in the next chapter of the ultra-violent but friendly “John Wick” saga.
In the first official trailer for “John Wick: Chapter 4,” released Thursday, the titular criminal wields a variety of weapons: nunchaku, axes, swords, his creepy stare, and more. – to use them against waves of enemies.
And while plot has never been the focus of the hit franchise (we did mention nunchakus, didn’t we?), this time Wick is looking to permanently shake up the High Table, the organization that runs the criminal underworld.
“But before he can win his freedom, Wick must face a new enemy with powerful alliances around the world and forces that turn old friends into enemies,” reads the official synopsis.
The villain in question is played by Bill Skarsgård, who is obviously more than qualified as a retired evil clown. His character tries to challenge Wick to a one-on-one fight for one last bloody exit, which, if the first three films are any indication, won’t end in his favor.
Cut to epic action sequences with Reeves racking up a slew of victims while riding, swimming underwater, crashing through windows and driving through the streets of Paris.
Only the film can tell if the new sequel matches the brutal excellence of the franchise’s most memorable moments, but director Chad Stahelski seems intent on upping the ante anyway.
“We keep finding new and interesting ways to make John Wick suffer,” Stahelski told The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming sequel. “This is where the action comes from. Learn how to make him suffer and then project him back.
Reeves, who will also appear in the Ana de Armas-led “Ballerina” spin-off, stars in the film alongside Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ian McShane and his former co-star from ” Matrix”. “. directed by Laurence Fishburne.
