Architect Laura González designed the residence, an apartment located on the 5th floor of 13 Rue de la Paix. Between materials, jewelry and heritage, she evokes the challenges she faced and the emotional charge she wanted to convey.
You have already worked for the house. What did Peace 13 mean to you?
13 Paix is the house’s historic Parisian address, a fabulous location. As for the residence, it was originally an archive where all the books and drawings were collected according to the year of creation… An inexhaustible source of inspiration. Today, this venue is designed to host privileged clients and personalities close to home, exclusive unveiling of new collections and private events.
What was your biggest challenge in designing the apartment?
It was necessary to overcome the limitations of the space, both with the attic and with the architectural structure and the shell to be preserved. I wanted to open the old separate volumes as much as possible, and now in a unified, coherent whole.
We find the keys to the complete universe of Cartier: jewelry, nature, animal husbandry… How to maintain homogeneity by bringing all these elements together in one place?
All these elements, but also the volume, are connected by the treatment of the walls, which are designed as a poetic mural, where the fauna and flora of Cartier jewels are found. The story of the house is told through the power of color touches, the combination of precious materials and materials, but also through the sense of detail, the importance of craftsmanship and design work.
What is your favorite detail?
A magnificent display was developed in the dining room, which mixes paint, embroidery highlights and beads, combining several skills of exceptional craftsmen. Or the table top in this same room, where colorful fish flourish, using Cartier brooches made entirely of marble veneer.
We appreciate your personal touch. What was your interpretation of Cartier’s imagination?
Cartier projects are an incredible playground for me, where I can give free rein to my inspiration while respecting the graphic charter given by the in-house team. Animal husbandry, jewelry… All this can be found in my interpretation of Cartier’s imagination.
