“Monsters” This is a show about mom and dad. Claudius (Miguel Alvarez) Patricio’s father, and Sandra (Erica Villalobos), Lola’s mother. Your children are no better or worse than others, but they are special. And, like good parents, they are convinced that everything they do for them is the best. This is not true?
The musical, which, after a successful run at the Juliet Theater, reaches british theater, presents us with a story about parenting and its taboos. FROM father and mother full of dreams of their children, but placing their hopes and disappointments on them. Ready to protect them from external dangers, forgetting about others, closer ones. They face their roles alone until they meet and form some kind of bond between them.
“I was captivated that there is a somewhat surly relationship between these parents trying to protect their children. They are convinced that they are the best parents, but at home there is little talk, inattention and they are trying to justify themselves,” director Fito Valles comments on the performance, which runs until November 30.
Always on the verge of a nervous breakdown, the main characters (Miguel Alvarez and Erica Villalobos) appear, reveal themselves to the audience, and the scene continues in the songs to add humor and heighten the drama.
“For me this is a drama that has a song. I know it’s a musical, but inside of me it’s a drama and the songs come at just the right moment to tell the story,” says the director, who has worked with The Producers on musicals such as “Mamma Mia” D “Billy Elliot”. “Mostly musicals show us a moment of spectacle (with dance, ensemble, color), and this work doesn’t go like that,” he adds about the Afisha Association’s performance.
And where are those monsters that the title of the work speaks of? For they do not always wait in the dark streets. Children struggle with their inner monsters, but also find them at home with familiar faces: moms and dads. “We are all monsters“, stresses Valles. “We are all part of this society that has normalized many behaviors. Without going into another topic, we are a macho community, and the character Claudio, in his quest to want to have the best child A1, sometimes sins badly. “Los Monstruos is a musical that is not afraid to embarrass us and invites us to dive into our own monster.
SYNTAX
Claudio is the boy’s father and Sandra is the girl’s mother. The behavior of the kids has led to the fact that they have no friends, but in this way their “puppies” are protected from any monster on the loose. And the fact is that only a good father knows how to protect his son from a monstrous world. Or so it seems. The work invites us to think about a society that does not develop; centering children as victims of this.
