He tells everything. Entitled in his memoirs Friends, lovers, and something big scaryMatthew Perry looks back on his past: his career in Hollywood, his addiction to opiates, the women in his life… Times Chandler Bing’s translator recalls his relationship with Julia Roberts, whom he dated for several months in the mid-1990s. An idyll that began with a fax.
“It was before the Internet, before cell phones. All our exchanges were done by fax. There were hundreds of them. Three or four times a day I would sit in front of my fax machine and watch its message slowly appear. “Some evenings I’d show up at a party trying to flirt with a beautiful woman, and I’d cut the conversation short to go home and see if a new fax had arrived,” the actor says in his autobiography.
“Meeting Julia Roberts was too much for me”
One day, “Saturday,” the epistolary exchanges become real. Matthew Perry will then do his best to get Julia Roberts in one of the series friends in 1995. However, after a few months, the couple broke up. “Meeting Julia Roberts was too much for me. I always felt like he was going to break up with me. I couldn’t get enough. I was broken, I could not love, writes the star of friends. Instead of facing my fear of losing her one day, I chose to break up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts. A decision that surprised the main stakeholder. “I could never describe the confusion on his face well enough,” adds Matthew Perry.
After dating American actor Benjamin Bratt in 1998-2001, Julia Roberts will finally meet photographer Daniel Moder. After marrying in July 2002, the couple have three children, Hazel and Phineas, soon to be 18, and Henry Daniel, 15. Matthew Perry, on the other hand, has multiplied his achievements and has never had children so far.
