Judge Maranelli Colon Requejo of San Juan’s trial court on Tuesday denied a request for a protection order she had submitted. Dennis Yadiel Sanchez Martinnephew of Ricky Martin, against a Puerto Rican artist.
“This is what I owe to my children, my husband, my family and all those ‘fans’ who firmly believed in my integrity,” the singer said in a press release issued by his San Juan reps after the failure.
“I feel at ease knowing that today we have taken a big step in this legal battle that is not yet over,” said the 50-year-old artist.
The statement clarified that Martin’s legal representatives provided compelling evidence that demonstrated in court the nature of the erratic behavior and lies that Sanchez allegedly set against his uncle.
Accordingly, the judge dismissed the application for a protection order that Sanchez Martin submitted in accordance with Sexual Assault Victims Act from Puerto Rico.
For their part, Martin’s lawyers, Jose Andreu FuentesDora Montserrat and Joaquin Montserrat Matienso spoke out after the judge’s decision.
“Our judicial system is based on the right of every person to be heard and to be able to prove their innocence with facts,” they stressed.
“We are honored to help Ricky Martin to show that he was the victim of a disgusting conspiracy that only a twisted and sick mind can create, ”they emphasized.
What’s next in the legal battle?
Dennis Sanchez originally filed a sexual assault lawsuit against his uncle in early September, two days after Ricky Martin filed a million dollar lawsuit for extortion and damages against him.
At the first hearing on July 21, Judge Raisa Cajitas, also from San Juan’s trial court, asked Sanchez if he had ever been assaulted by the artist, and he replied that he had not.
The lawsuits began when Sanchez received an ex parte domestic violence protection order against the singer, a case brought in July by the plaintiff himself.
“From the outset, our goal in taking legal representation in this matter was to bring the truth to light and to face an honest and firm examination of the accusations and slanders to which he was subjected. Ricky Martin“The artist’s lawyers were plentiful.
The case will continue with the next hearing on November 10, which will evaluate the protection order issued by the court to Ricky Martin against his nephew, and then the extortion and defamation lawsuit.
