Andrew Young did not perform well as a presidential candidate nor was he a presidential historian.
The former Democratic presidential candidate on Monday tweeted that he might believe it was a ticket to inspire a nation that is fully united toward unity.
For Young, unfortunately, the only unity that inspired him was the usual social media satire on the example he chose to showcase his bipartisan dream.
“Lincoln won the presidency with a new Republican ticket in 1860 with a quadruple run of 39.8 percent,” he wrote. He appointed Democrat Andrew Johnson as his representative in 1864.

Young doesn’t seem to know or care that Johnson is a formidable example of support for a two-party government, as he has long been referred to by historians as the worst presidential candidate.
Oh, and he was the first president to be impeachable.
Of course, Twitter users were forced to fill in the blanks for Young.
Lincoln was then assassinated and Andrew Johnson sabotaged the Reconstruction, leading to the Confederacy not dying, the Jim Crowe era, the Southern Strategy and finally ending with Trump and the White Rebellion in the United States Capitol. https://t.co/pxMlplgO1E

I love how often you use your tweets to read the first 3 sentences of random Wikipedia pages and your commitment to never re-read sentences. https://t.co/303hNm8DFe

TFW You read a history book on Twitter directly about what a good dating day was before reading the next chapter https://t.co/ZB9EZjRm6B

If you think Andrew Johnson is a good choice, you probably think Joe Biden should have named Don Jr. in 2020 for his nomination. That is unreasonable. https://t.co/bD0KogBhkp

Like I said Andrew Young looks like Fudge, the first bite is wonderful, so what are you doing to me?
(Andrew Johnson is a charming character who is also considered the worst president of the United States for attempting to restore slavery.) Https://t.co/50h5JR9f0T

On Tuesday, Young tried to duplicate the fact that just because the example he used to back up his idea was horrible, it doesn’t mean it was a bad idea.
Andrew Johnson is unfortunately a horrible and destructive president. This only exacerbates the tragedy of Lincoln’s murder. This does not mean that a single ticket is a bad idea.

But it didn’t turn out well for him.
To shout out loud, stop referring to it as a “unity ticket”. It is a political calculation that reflects the particular challenges faced by Lincoln and the Republican Party in relation to the course of the war in 1864. The historical context is important. # History teacher https://t.co/OhtfzzrNKY
