Natalie Portman calmly perceives old age. The actress, who gave a long interview to the British edition of the magazine, is proud of her physical uniqueness. He says she doesn’t want to “hide behind makeup” anymore.

In the spotlight since the age of 12, since portraying Matilda Lando in the film LeonNatalie Portman faced public opinion about her figure at a very young age. “It definitely toughened me up, but most of all it taught me not to measure my worth by what other people think,” the actress, now 41, says in a new interview with the British publication. He: “Of course it gives you some confidence because you have success and attention, but it also gives you a real fear and awareness of what people think of you. And that includes the bad things that can really bother you.”

If makeup allowed her to blend in with the crowd when she was younger, today the Oscar-winning actress relies more on her differences to attract attention. “[L’industrie de] “Beauty has so much made people feel like there’s something wrong with them and needs to be fixed, instead of saying that you have so many amazing things inside of you to discover, to express,” laments the Dior muse. : acknowledging that in our current age things are beginning to change. “Growing up, I felt like I had to cover my blemishes or hide my skin imperfections. I used cosmetics to disguise and correct myself. Now I feel like it’s more about expressing myself and showing my personality and highlighting that, letting others be who I am,” she says.

An optimistic view of aging

A philosophy he practices while ignoring the dominant youth of the film industry. “In my opinion, getting old is a privilege. I love it,” says Jane’s translator in the latest Marvel, Thor: Love and thunder. “There’s a generation of actresses that refuse to leave the screen, and you see them flourishing doing their most interesting work in their 50s, 60s, 70s. We’re really seeing incredible, beautiful and interesting performances from all kinds of women right now.” Among those she admires and whom she often cites as inspiration to her team to achieve her hair and makeup, she specifically mentions Claudia Cardinale, Susan Sarandon or Julia Roberts.

The best beauty advice she ever received came from a man: fashion designer Albert Elbaz. “He kept telling me, ‘You’re small, and that’s very beautiful.’ Don’t wear heels,” or “that’s what makes you special, celebrate it, wear flats, be yourself. That is what is beautiful,” he recalls. A life lesson that she decided to apply both in terms of fashion and beauty. “I think it’s the same thing. What makes you different makes you beautiful. The beauty we strive for should not be anything other than what we are,” he concludes. And this regardless of age.
