Lucasfilm’s new series debuts May 27 exclusively on Disney+
The Star Wars Universe is full of specific nomenclatures that contemplate the characters, locations and actions of the productions. The newest series in this universe will be Obi-Wan Kenobi — the long-awaited miniseries from Lucasfilm, releasing exclusively on Disney+ on May 27.
The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005), when Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat: the fall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who went to the dark side by becoming the famous villain Sith Lord Darth Vader.
But what is the Force? And Jedi? And Sith? For those who want to follow Obi-Wan Kenobi, but haven’t watched the saga’s films, the Disney+ prepared a glossary with the main expressions of the Star Wars Universe. Check it out below:
Force
The Force is the energy field that rules the universe and empowers everyone. The good side of the Force is related to the Jedi and values the freedom of each one. The dark side is related to the Siths and aims to impose a system of dictatorship by controlling the entire galaxy.
Jedi
Jedis are knights who have special power to fight the evil of the universe in order to restore order. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the main Jedi in the entire Star Wars franchise.
Sith
Similar to Jedi, Siths use force to control others and always think about acquiring power above all else. Darth Vader is one of the main Sith references in the entire universe.
padawan
They are early stage Jedi, as if they were apprentices. Anakin Skywalker, before entering the dark side of the force and becoming Darth Vader, was a Padawan and his master was Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Republic
The Republic is a government that values democracy in order to generate order in the universe, and it acted for that long before the rise of the Empire. Jedi Knights such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Resistance are members who care for the peace and order of the Republic.
Empire
Unlike the Republic, the Empire is a totalitarian government that aims to establish a kind of dictatorship in the universe. One of the key figures in this government is Darth Sidious, also known as Emperor Palpatine. In addition to him, the Siths and Stormtroopers (the famous white soldiers) are part of the Empire.
Resistance (Rebel Alliance)
It is a group that seeks to establish order in the universe even with the dictatorship system imposed by the Empire. Audiences can get to know the Resistance better in the film Rogue One (2016), which features the Rebel Alliance in an attempt to stop the Empire from building the Death Star — a powerful weapon against the good of the galaxy.
