A woman who sued singer Bob Dylan for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was 12 has dropped the case after the artist’s lawyers accused her of destroying evidence.
Last August, the plaintiff, whose identity is unknown, filed a lawsuit alleging that Dylan molested her for six weeks between April and May 1965.
The lawsuit alleges that the singer “used his prestige as a musician” to secure “alcohol and drugs and rape” a woman.
On Wednesday, the legal team Bob Dylan sent a letter to federal court accusing the plaintiff of deleting important text messages and suggesting that “financial penalties” were needed.
On Thursday, the same team reported that the woman had closed the case. Lawyers for the plaintiff did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for comment. “Case closed,” said Orin Snyder, Dylan’s chief attorney.
