The story behind the release of Mauricio de Sousa’s first comic book will be addressed in “Mauricio de Sousa: The Movie”, a long -opening feature in October
Mauricio de Sousa It is one of the big names in children’s literature in Brazil. Responsible for creating Monica’s Gang, more than six decades the cartoonist has been responsible for marking the lives of thousands of Brazilians from different generations, as well as helping in the literacy of many, thanks to their comics.
The beginning of the most beloved gang in the country started exactly 65 years ago, when Mauricio He was launching his first comic book – which was not yet starred by Monica. Titled “Bido # 1”, the comic book reached newsstands in March 1960, being starring the Bidu dog, the first character created by the designer in the 1950s, which was inspired by his childhood dog.
In addition to the dog, the main story, which received the title of “The Talking Dog”, also had the presence of fringes, Titi, Manezinho, Jeremiah, Humberto, Roy Rogers, Trigger, Seu Carlos (father of the fringe) and Dona Elza (mother of the fringe).
In the comic book, we follow the attempt of a frustrated magician of mesmerizing Bidu, who is interrupted after fringe throws a stone into his head, causing the animal and man to change personality, making the protagonist in a talking dog.
Completing the comic, besides “The Talking Dog”, the comic book also had the following narratives: “The Bidu Complexes!”, “The Dwarf Floor”, “Frajinha”, “Mechanical Dog”, “The Phate Pup”, “The Ovo da Discordia” and the last story, which had not stated.
The path to the first comic book
Although, currently, Mauricio de Sousa Being considered a national genius, the way for the launch of his first comic book was not as easy as many imagine. The whole trajectory for the arrival of his first comic, and the path that the designer led until he became a Brazilian icon, will be presented in the movie “Mauricio de Sousa: The Movie”, starring by Mauro Sousason of Mauricio.
The work, which is scheduled to debut for October this year, when the cartoonist will turn 90, promises to present the entire trajectory of Mauriciofrom his childhood to the launch of the first magazine with Monica, besides showing the challenges of his journey, highlighting the creative process and the inspiration behind the creation of some of the most striking characters in the gang, and the consolidation of Monica’s Gang.
