As we begin a new episode of intense and very intense heat in 2022, some reflexes must be adopted to avoid sweating too much.
New hot weather is set for France this week. Obviously, beads of sweat will filter under the blouse at high speed. A completely natural phenomenon. “When it’s hot, the body adjusts its temperature and sweats to cool down,” explains Dr. Thomas Kasab. It produces sweat, which sits on the skin and evaporates. To do this, it absorbs energy, therefore heat, and then rejects it. The body is freezing. It’s pure physics.” There are solutions to physically and mentally avoiding liquefaction and limiting perspiration.
1. We accept fog
To generate an evaporative action that rejects our body heat without producing stinky sweat, we make friends with fog. “It is the same principle. The water particles on the skin will need your energy (and therefore heat) to evaporate.”
2. We rest
Anxiety feeds anxiety. You sweat, you feel it, you panic, and you sweat more. View in perspective. “It’s abnormal to sweat too much. This overactivity of the sweat glands is called “hyperhidrosis”. (we have 4 million in our bodies, editor’s note), explains Thomas Kassab. It can be caused by a heat wave, but also by stress and anxiety. Evil must be fought with evil and stress relief, classical relaxation techniques.

3. We avoid risky materials and colors
Forget your strappy black neoprene dress. “Dark colors absorb much more infrared. It is better to wear light colors, advises Thomas Kasab. Synthetic materials do not allow the skin to breathe and sweat to evaporate. Opt for cotton and linens that allow for easy ventilation.
4. We use alum stone before going to bed
Your first instinct will be to jump on your massive Jules deodorant, which looks a lot better armed than your little deodorant ball. “It’s just marketing, one is not more effective than the other, says the pharmacy doctor. Also, deodorants don’t prevent sweating, they just add fragrance.” Tragedy in the bathroom. Do not panic. you’ll find antiperspirants such as alum in drugstores. “Based on aluminum salts, they are not dangerous if you use them well. We follow the three “er” rule: we apply the product in the evening on dry and healthy skin. Salts should remain on the surface, we do not apply them especially after hair removal, on pimples or eczema, when the skin is porous. We sweat less at night, the salts can settle better.”
What to avoid when it’s hot?
5. Do not drink too cold
It does not make sense to throw 3 liters of water a day for less sweat. On the other hand, the temperature of your drink affects your sweat production. Surprise. a very cold drink will make you sweat even more. “The body has a simple reaction: you give it cold, so it will warm up,” explains Thomas Kassab. On the contrary, by giving a hot drink, he regulates the heat and cools down. No need to burn your throat, we especially prefer room temperature drinks and lukewarm herbal teas. That is good. some have the same stimulant effect as coffee.
6. Slow down on the mojitos and condiments
Your diet can also limit breakouts when it comes to sweating. We eliminate anything that contains caffeine, such as alcohol, tea and coffee. “Anything that’s stimulating raises blood pressure, and therefore body temperature, and therefore sweat,” explains Thomas Kassab. Spices have the same effect. Deleting everything is pointless, we can just have a lighter hand.
