With a different approach and other characters; Find out what was the initial idea of ’Beauty and the Beast’, a movie released in 1991 by Disney
After shelving the project twice – first in 1930 and then in 1950 – in 1991, the idea could finally be taken from the paper and Disney brought to the big screen of theaters “Beauty and the Beast”, an adaptation of the work of same name written by the FrenchJeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumontin the mid -1700s.
In the animation, the young beautiful is living in a castle with a beast in exchange for her father’s freedom, but is surprised to find that the frightening being with whom she shares the days is, in fact, a prince who has become a victim of a curse that can only be broken when he finds his true love.
With the premiere, fans of the book and the feature film could notice that the story eventually underwent some changes to be able to get into the seal of Mickey’s house, such as the inclusion of Lumière, Mrs. Potts and the other magic objects of Castle that helps Bela to adapt to the new life and reveal the secret of the beast, and the arrival of Gaston, who became the great villain of the animated plot.
But did you know that even the news of the plot has undergone modifications? It turns out that when history was developing in the 1980s, more unpublished characters would be part of the title, and Gaston would not be Bela’s only enemy and the narrative would not be supported about a sequence of songs.

As calculated by the Screenrant Portal, The first storyboards featured three male antagonists willing to conquer Beautiful Love. The amount seemed great, so they ended up being combined for the creation of Gaston. More than that, at first, Gaston would also have a co-villain: Bela, Marguerite’s own aunt, who despised Maurice.
However, the idea of another antagonist was discarded and the final version of Gaston was reformulated once again. Now at the hands of the writers Linda WoolvertonGaston gained characteristics such as narcissism, selfishness and bravery, which were granted to him by the owner of the script based on what he had noticed in his ex-boyfriends.
Even at the beginning of the project, “Beauty and the Beast” would not be a musical. It turns out that in the 20 minutes of storyboard made by the initial team, the story had a different tone, being much darker than the version that arrived on the screens, making it difficult to connect with musical numbers.
Fortunately, Disney decided to change the approach and recreate the sequence of table to frame, leaving the plot lighter with the arrival of the lyricist Howard Ashman and the composer Alan Menkenthe minds behind “Gaston”, “something happens”, “my village” and the song theme of animation: “Feelings are”; Remember!
