After NewJeans opened a competition to choose a new name for the group, ADOR took a stance on the quintet’s decision
On the night of last Wednesday, 22nd, ADOR, a subsidiary agency of the HYBE conglomerate and responsible for forming NewJeans, took a position on the competition opened by the group’s members, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyeinto set a temporary name for the formation.
It turns out that, on December 14, 2024, the quintet created an alternative profile on Instagram, which is found under the user @jeanzforfree, so that they could communicate with their fans after announcing in November of the same year that they would no longer maintain their contracts. of exclusivity that they had signed with HYBE and ADOR. The decision came after the companies did not comply with the demands made by them so that a healthier working environment was maintained after the change of CEOs at the agency.
On this profile, the members announced a contest in which the fandom could help choose the name they would temporarily use for activities away from HYBE and ADOR. This is because Bunnies (as NewJeans fans are called) would have two days to send suggestions in the comments; see the publication:
The news was received positively by fans, as it could mean that the five idols would return to promotional activities independently. However, ADOR shared a press release revealing that the action taken by the artists could be a breach of contract after all, even though Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyeinhave announced that they no longer work with the companies, the conglomerate states that the contracts are still valid.
“ADOR maintains the position that our exclusive contract with NewJeans is still valid and we are faithfully engaged in the legal proceedings. It is regrettable that members are attempting to pursue independent entertainment activities, such as asking for new name suggestions, before receiving judgment legal, as this could be a serious breach of contract,” the company said.
It is worth remembering that, before the contest, NewJeans had also shared a statement, where they stated: “The five of us have no intention of returning to HYBE or ADOR, where not even the minimum level of trust can be expected.” In the document, they also revealed that they hired a lawyer to represent them in the process opened by the companies in December last year in order to keep the contracts active. The case remains ongoing.
