The Paramount film company has officially announced the premiere date of the fourth film in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise – the film will hit the big screens on March 19, 2027.
According to Variety, the decision to create a new part was made even before the release of the third film, which became a real hit.
Released in December, Sonic 3 achieved the best results in the franchise’s history: $218 million at the domestic box office and $422 million worldwide. In general, the success of each new film exceeded the previous one – the first part of 2020 collected $319 million, the second – $405 million. The franchise’s combined box office receipts have now surpassed $1 billion.
Sonic gained popularity not only in cinemas. Domestic and digital earnings topped $180 million, according to Paramount, proving worldwide love for the blue hedgehog’s adventures.
All previous installments were directed by Jeff Fowler. The main characters are traditionally voiced by Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik), Idris Elba (Knuckles) and Collin O’Shaughnessy (Tails). In the third film, Keanu Reeves joined the star cast, voicing the iconic character Shadow.
