Which ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ book should be adapted by Netflix?

Discover the rumor that may have revealed the book of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ that will be adapted for cinemas and streaming on Netflix

In 2018, Netflix acquired the rights to “The Chronicles of Narnia”, a story that emerged as a series of books, written by the Irish author CS Lewis and published between 1950 and 1956, surprising fans of the saga and bringing hope to those who wanted to see the characters from the pages come to life on screen, as the new contract would mean that there was the chance of a new adaptation.

A classic of literature, the seven-volume title presents Narnia, a fantastic kingdom inhabited by magical beings, which is discovered by children from Earth, Lúcia (Georgie Henley), Edmundo (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell) and Pedro (William Moseley), after going through a portal in a wardrobe. When they get there, the quartet ends up discovering that the place has been dominated by the White Witch (Tilda Swinton) and guided by the Lion Aslan will try to help in the battles against evil to save Narnia.

However, the anxiety to discover what the new film version will be like had to be controlled, as news about the project only began to emerge years later, in 2023 — but the wait was worth it, as, since then, some of the names have been revealed. involved in the new film, in addition to details about the release window, as filming is already expected to begin and premiere in theaters and streaming.

In addition, a rumor also emerged about the plot that will be seen on the big screen, sparking even more curiosity for the new project, taking into account that it reveals that it is possible that the Netflix version will not start like the films released by Disney — ” The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005), “Prince Caspian” (2008) and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (2010) —, since, if confirmed, the adaptation will not follow the release order of the literary work.

This is because, in an interview with The Week, Jason Isaacsan actor who already auditioned for Aslan (a role he ended up getting Liam Neeson), listed his favorite books when he possibly revealed which of the books will be directed by Greta Gerwig for the streaming platform: “O Sobrinho do Mago”.

“I’ve loved everything about Narnia since I was very young. I understood something devastating about mortality from Pedro. But I choose this one (The Magician’s Nephew) because Greta Gerwig is about to make a movie about it, and I can’t wait to see it ” Isaacs said.

“The Magician’s Nephew” is the sixth book in the franchise, released in 1955, but the first in chronological order. In the plot, which works as a prequel, events that precede the first published book in the series are narrated.

On Amazon, the title has the following synopsis: “The adventure begins when Digory and Polly end up in the secret office of eccentric Uncle André. Deceived by him, Polly touches the magic ring and disappears. Digory, terrified, decides to leave immediately in search of the friend in the Other World. There he meets Polly and together they listen to Aslan sing his song as he creates the enchanted world of Narnia, full of sun, trees, flowers, grass and animals.”

Even though the rumor has gained strength, it is possible for there to be a misinterpretation, as Isaacs he may also have been referring to the franchise in general, and not to the title mentioned as his favorite book when saying that a “film about it” will be made. Furthermore, Netflix has not yet released any information about the plot.

Despite this, one thing is a fact: the adaptation will be different from the others. This is because the producer Amy Pascal revealed to Deadline that Gerwig will bring a “completely new approach” to the story and that there will be a “very rock and roll” feel.

The new “The Chronicles of Narnia” should be released in theaters on Thanksgiving 2026 (which will be celebrated on November 26th), and on December 25th on Netflix.
