BLACKPINK’s hit song that wasn’t originally from the group

Find out which BLACKPINK hit song was originally sent to another renowned girl group, but was discarded

After using the year 2024 to focus on their individual activities, in 2025, BLACKPINK is expected to make their long-awaited comeback as a full group. In addition to new music, as reported by YG Entertainment, the girl group is also expected to begin a new world tour.

With their return confirmed, this will be the first time that YG will have three active girl groups, as 2NE1 is still carrying out its tour commemorating 15 years of debut, and BABYMONSTER is also scheduled to make its new comeback and begin its first tour.

Despite being from different generations, the groups have many connections that some people may not know. During a recent interview with KBS Cool FM radio hosted by Park Myung Soo, Minzy2NE1’s maknae, revealed that one of BLACKPINK’s biggest hits was originally from his group.

Which BLACKPINK song was originally by 2NE1?

First of all, it is important to remember that, in addition to both girlgroups having four members, the formations also have another point in common: many of their songs were produced by Teddy Parkone of YG Entertainment’s top music producers.

During the conversation, Minzy revealed that, between the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, while 2NE1 was preparing their second and final Korean album “Crush”, the quartet received a song called “Blame it on your love”, which was almost recorded, however, it ended up being discarded after the group received other songs that would fit better with the album.

According to the artist, “This song was our demo track. As we prepared to record, we received other songs to add to our album.” In the end, the track went to YG’s drawer, and “Come Back Home” was chosen as the title track for the new album.

Despite being archived, “Blame it on your love” was not forgotten, and ended up in the hands of BLACKPINK. In 2017, the song won the world, however, with a different name: “As If It’s Your Last”. During the radio program, Minzy he even sang a snippet of what 2NE1’s version would be like, where the famous “majimak cheoreom” was replaced by “blame it on your love”.

With the voices of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisathe song sold more than 2.5 million copies in South Korea alone, occupying the top 50 of different music charts around the world. Today, the music video also has more than 1.4 billion views on YouTube. Watch!
