Jungkook’s day? Understand why January 9th is dedicated to the BTS member

Find out why BTS fans consider January 9th to be ‘Jungkook Day’, or ‘JK Day’, and how the celebration came to be

Did you know that today, January 9th, Jungkook Day is celebrated? Contrary to what many might imagine, the date was not created to celebrate the BTS maknae’s birthday, as the singer will only complete another year of life on September 1st.

Through social media, ARMYs, BTS fans, took advantage of the moment to share photos, images and sweet words to the artist, just as he asked seven years ago. But if today isn’t his birthday, why do we celebrate Jungkook Day on January 9th?

How did Jungkook Day come about?

Also known as “JK Day”, the date appeared in 2018, through the calendar present in that year’s BTS Seasons Greetings (a kind of photo album that also has different gifts).

In the item, when looking at the dates of January, it is possible to find the 9th highlighted, containing a message written by Jungkookwhere it says: “JK DAY — Do something, whatever it is, and post it!!! (On the internet)”.

As reported by the Koreaboo portal, despite it not being the day on which he officially becomes older, the idol would have chosen this date, as it is the opposite of his birthday, celebrated on 09/01 (September 1st).

Since then, “Jungkook Day” has been celebrated annually by ARMYs, always following the artist’s request. In 2019, the singer himself made a post to celebrate the day through X (formerly Twitter), sharing some photo montages of himself accompanied by the caption “Today is Jungkook Day”. Look!
