CERTIFICATES – The pathology affects 5% of men, according to the latest research published in 2023. A disease that is difficult to diagnose, particularly because of gender stereotypes.
47-year-old engineer Sebastien is a very happy father of two daughters aged 10 and 13. However, the man has come a long way. When his eldest was born, he went through what we call “paternal depression”. During the birth, while he is “overjoyed” to be a father, he hesitates. “Before, there were already small warnings, especially during pregnancy I had anxiety phases, but nothing serious. I really did not have any anxiety or history in my life that could predict the future…” After the euphoria of childbirth, everything exploded; Overnight, his mental health deteriorates. “It was immediate and very intense. I was constantly crying, I had no appetite, I lost 5 kilograms in a few days,” he recalls. Everyone congratulated me, but I did not understand what was happening to me. I was really experiencing cognitive dissonance between the happiness of becoming a father and the anxieties, the sadness of depression.
