With just a few days left until the end of 2024, many people tend to take advantage of this moment to reflect on everything that has happened in the last few months, remembering all the good and bad experiences of this year.
More than that, the end of the year is also marked by the launch of countless lists from the most different vehicles with a ranking of the best works published and the major milestones that different films, series, actors and singers managed to achieve.
In 2024, the K-pop industry was marked by memorable releases, which hit the playlists of millions of fans around the world. With that in mind, the RECREIO editorial team put together a list of our favorite releases of the year — including albums and singles. Check it out!
G-Dragon — POWER and Home Sweet Home
It is impossible to make this list without mentioning the expected return of G-Dragona member of BIGBANG, who made his first solo comeback in seven years in October. In addition to the impeccable “POWER”, a track that proves why the idol is recognized by many as the “King of K-Pop”, the singer also presented us with the lively “Home Sweet Home”, a surprise collaboration with the other two members of BIG BANG: Taeyang and Daesung.
BLACKPINK solos
In 2024, the four members of BLACKPINK took the year off to focus on their solo careers — and delivered a series of anthems for BLINKs. While Jisoo decided to take advantage of the moment to prioritize her activities as an actress, Jennie launched the collaborations “Slow Motion”, with Matt Championand “SPOT!”, with the rapper Zicoin addition to promoting the single “Mantra”. Already Rosé released his first solo album, “rosie”, which features the hit “APT.”, in collaboration with Bruno Mars. Finally, the maknae Lisa also released a number of singles, including “Rockstar”, “New Woman” (feat. Rosalía) and “Moonlit Floor”.
TWICE — One Spark
At the beginning of the year, shortly after their first visit to Brazil, TWICE made their first comeback of 2024 with the album “With YOU-th. In particular, the album’s title track, “One Spark”, won the hearts of the RECREIO editorial team with its captivating lyrics and choreography.
TWICE solos
In addition to returning as a full group this year, TWICE’s solo releases were also a big highlight. In June, Nayeon made their first comeback with the mini-album “NA”, accompanied by the title track “ABCD”. In the month of September, the maknae Tzuyu made his long-awaited debut as a soloist with the release of the album “abouTZU”, which features the title track “Run Away”.
BABYMONSTER — DRIP
BABYMONSTER’s first comeback couldn’t be left out either. In November, YG Entertainment’s latest girl group released the album “DRIP”, accompanied by the title track of the same name which featured G-Dragonfrom BIGBANG, in the composition — a hit!
RM — right people wrong place
At the end of May, RMleader of BTS, released his latest solo album, “Right Place, Wrong Person”, composed of 11 tracks that explore the alternative genre, and reflect on different difficulties in life. The album, which received a documentary shown in cinemas, was also chosen as one of the best albums of 2024 by Rolling Stone magazine, occupying 88th out of 100 positions, being the only K-pop artist to be present in the ranking.
ATEEZ — WORK
Proving the group’s versatility, in May ATEEZ released the album “GOLDEN HOUR: Part 1”, an album that was accompanied by the lively title track “WORK”. In addition to being a super fun clip, the track also ended up going viral on social media thanks to its unique choreography.
SEVENTEEN — SEVENTEEN RIGHT HERE
In April, SEVENTEEN released the powerful album “SEVENTEEN RIGHT HERE”. In addition to four new tracks, including the title track “MAESTRO”, and eight Korean versions of Japanese singles, the album also featured an extra CD, composed of re-recordings of all of his title tracks throughout his career.
KISS OF LIFE — Midas Touch
2024 was an incredible year for KISS OF LIFE — and for us too, who were honored with a series of hits sung by Julie, Belle, Haneul and Natty. In April, the girl group made the first comeback of their career with the release of the single “Midas Touch”, which soon became a hit and won over the public with its infectious chorus and striking choreography.
Stray Kids — ATE
It is impossible to finish the list without mentioning the album “ATE”, by Stray Kids, released in July. Produced by 3RACHA, the album was accompanied by the powerful title track “Chk Chk Boom”, which featured a memorable music video featuring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds with Wolverine and Deadpool costumes, respectively. Furthermore, the album has b-sides that also fell in love with the public, such as “I Like It”, which went viral on social media among K-pop fans.
