Find out what the curious connection is between ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ and a popular Disney princess that many people don’t know about

Recently, one of the most anticipated Disney releases of the year debuted in world cinemas: the live-action “Mufasa: The Lion King”, a production that presents the life of Mufasa, father of Simba, protagonist of the animation “The Lion King”, released in 1994, before becoming king of the savannah.

With the new film, the universe of “The Lion King” expanded, with the presentation not only of new places, but also of new characters who became important to the timeline, including Afia (Mufasa’s mother), Masego (father of Mufasa), Kovu (husband of Kiara, Simba’s daughter) and Rani (wife of Kion, Simba’s son).

In addition to adding important moments to the story, the new characters also ended up creating an unexpected connection between the franchise and a beloved Disney princess: Tiana, from “The Princess and the Frog”.

What is the connection between “The Lion King” and “The Princess and the Frog”?

Contrary to what some might imagine, the connection between the two productions is not in the plot, but in the cast responsible for giving voice to the characters. That’s because in “Mufasa: The Lion King”, Afia, Mufasa’s mother and Simba’s grandmother, is voiced by the actress Anika Noni Rosethe same person responsible for voicing Tiana in “The Princess and the Frog”.

In addition to giving the princess a voice, Anika he also has other major influences on the character. This is because the professional served as inspiration for a series of the girl’s characteristics, including her dimples, rounded nose, full lips, and the fact that she is left-handed.

As for your latest character, Noni Rose reflected in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Afia “sums up what many mothers over time do”.

“She gives her all for her children. Not in the way that she loses herself, but in the way that she loves her son so much, that she wants to raise him with all the tools to be the best ‘man’ or lion he can be. But she is also supportive of his journey, she supports him”, concludes the actress.

“Mufasa: The Lion King” can be found in cinemas across Brazil, while “The Princess and the Frog” is available for streaming through Disney+.
