The Fact of Scar’s Life That Was Deleted From ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’

Find out what fact about the life of the lion Scar was not included in Disney’s latest live-action, “Mufasa: The Lion King”

Last week, the long-awaited live-action “Mufasa: The Lion King”, prequel to the renowned animation “The Lion King”, responsible for presenting the life of Simba’s father before the events of the 1994 film, arrived in cinemas worldwide.

Throughout the plot, we follow Mufasa and Scar’s childhood, the beginning and the true reason behind the conflict between the brothers, Mufasa’s rise to the throne and the expansion of the franchise’s universe, with the introduction of new territories and characters.

With the new film, the public finally has the opportunity to understand how Scar (who is actually called Taka) got his famous scar, and why the lion ended up taking on a villainous personality, harboring a huge grudge against his own brother, causing that he decides to kill him at the beginning of “The Lion King” (1994).

According to the film, Taka becomes a villain out of jealousy, anger and envy towards his own brother, since Mufasa, who had been adopted, ended up assuming the throne of the kingdom even though he was the youngest, in addition to always standing out more than him due to his strong leadership personality.

However, although “Mufasa: The Lion King” gives more details about the character’s early life, the plot ended up leaving aside an important fact about the character: his connection with hyenas.

During the animation, hyenas play an important role in the plot, as they are Scar’s main companions in his plan to kill Mufasa and take over the throne of the Pride Lands, expelling his nephew, Simba. Despite the live-action answering numerous questions about the characters’ pasts, the new film does not present an explanation of how Taka became close to the hyenas, and how he began to lead them.

Why aren’t hyenas in ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’?

To date, there is no official statement from Disney regarding the absence of the characters in the film. However, as reported by the ScreenRant portal, it is possible to find a supposed justification within the story itself.

This is because, throughout the live-action, during Mufasa and Scar’s journey to Milele, the brothers end up encountering other savannah animals, however, never hyenas. This way, we can understand that these animals probably did not live in the areas the pair passed through during the trip.

When they finally arrive at Milele, some hyenas appear on the scene, however, still without having any proximity to Taka. Therefore, the plot assumes that Scar may have gotten closer to the hyenas only after Mufasa took over as king.
