The singer TESLENKO refused to participate in the national selection 2025, explaining the decision by saying that he intended to avoid accusations of hype on sensitive topics.
The Ukrainian singer TESLENKO has decided to stop participating in the National selection for Eurovision 2025. This was reported by Public Broadcasting.
The artist had a chance to enter the finals based on the audience’s voting results in the Diya application, but he asked to withdraw his candidacy.
“TESLENKO leadership asked the Public to withdraw the performer’s candidacy and suspend his further participation in the national selection 2025. The Public approved the artist’s request and terminated the participation agreement with him,” the official statement said.
In his Instagram story, TESLENKO explained that he refused the competition to avoid accusations of hype on a sensitive topic.
The singer’s decision comes amid a scandal surrounding another member of the ENLEO longlist, who was criticized for a video in which he admitted to listening to Russian music. TESLENKO had earlier said that he would withdraw his candidacy if ENLEO was shortlisted. At the same time, the singer was accused of performing at an event by blogger Anna Alkhim, who popularized Russian culture.
In the end, neither TESLENKO nor ENLEO made the shortlist, but both had the chance to compete for a place in the final through audience voting.
The final of the national selection 2025, which will take place on February 8 in the format of a televised concert, will take place without the participation of TESLENKO.
It was previously reported that the Netherlands at Eurovision 2025, which will take place in Basel, Switzerland, will be represented by 21-year-old singer Claude.
