Check out the full statement:

“Hello, this is KLAP Entertainment.

We would like to inform you that VANNER’s Hyesung was released from military service on December 16th due to medical reasons.

As previously mentioned, Hyesung, who was dealing with panic disorder and mental health issues, was admitted to the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital two weeks after enlisting for a detailed examination. Based on the results of the examination, the Military Manpower Administration determined that he was unfit for active military service and required continued treatment, leading to his discharge for medical reasons.

We sincerely apologize for causing concern with this sudden news to fans who have been waiting for updates on Hyesung.

We completely understand the concern fans may feel towards Hyesung. However, we kindly ask for your understanding that we are unable to provide additional details beyond what has already been shared.

Our company will continue to do its utmost to ensure that Hyesung can focus on her treatment going forward.

Thanks”.

It is worth remembering that, although military service is mandatory in South Korea, some citizens may receive exemption for medical reasons, including serious health conditions, such as Hyesung. This year, another case of release from conscription that drew attention was that of S.Coupsleader of SEVENTEEN.

In March, PLEDIS Entertainment, the company responsible for the group, issued a statement announcing that the artist, who was supposed to enlist this year, was officially exempt from military service due to his left knee injury, caused during a recording last year, where ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament.

At the time, the statement released by the agency said: “Due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee joint, S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery. Because it was a major surgery, he has been undergoing physical rehabilitation therapy for a long time, from last year until now. As a result, it was classified as grade 5.”

As explained by Soompi, men who are classified as grade 5 by the South Korean Recruitment System are exempt from military enlistment during peacetime, however, they must report to the Armed Forces if an armed conflict occurs to provide support to other combatants. .
