Haerin says NewJeans will not pay fine for leaving ADOR

The termination of the exclusive contracts between NewJeans and ADOR was announced by the group’s members in an emergency press conference

NewJeans is leaving ADOR! The announcement was made by the group members, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyeinin an emergency press conference held this Thursday, the 28th, where they stated that they would end the contract with the South Korean entertainment agency at midnight on November 29th.

The termination was revealed because ADOR and the company that subsidizes it, HYBE, did not respond within the 14-day period (which ended on the date of the press conference) to the content certification the company sent by the group, where it was requested to rectify the significant violations of the group’s exclusive contracts.

Thus, the group decided to leave the company, with Hanni stating during the speech that “ADOR does not have the will or ability to protect NewJeans”, as one of the reasons for the termination of the legal agreement between them. More than that, he also explained some other reasons:

“We faced mistreatment, not only against us, but also against our team, countless impediments and contradictions, deliberate miscommunications and manipulation in several areas.”

Before the announcement, however, the South Korean media (via Koreaboo) was already speculating the possible scenarios for the group’s future with the company, where the estimated value emerged if the quintet decided to terminate the contract without going to court, which it would be about ₩300 billion KRW (about R$1.34 billion), taking into account the Korea Fair Trade Commission which has a standard early termination fee for idol contracts, which has not been revealed.

Regarding the possible fine, Haerin stated that there will be no amount to be paid by NewJeans, in addition to stating that the breach of contract was made by ADOR and the conglomerate to which the agency belongs, HYBE:

“We have seen several articles about penalties for breach of contract. We have not violated our exclusive contracts and will never violate them. Until now, we have tried our best to carry out our activities, so we think there is no reason for us to pay penalties. In fact, the current ADOR and HYBE violated the contracts, leading to this current situation, so we believe that the current ADOR and HYBE are responsible.”
