The American Film Academy has announced the long list of nominees for the 2025 Oscars. Ukrainian films were presented in the International Film and Feature Documentary Film categories.
The American Film Academy has announced the long list of nominees for the prestigious Oscar 2025 film award, which includes 169 films in the categories: International Feature Film, Feature Animated Film and Feature Documentary.
Ukraine received representatives in two categories:
International feature film:
The film directed by Philip Sotnichenko is included in the long list La Palisade. The film takes viewers back to 1996, the time of Ukraine’s transition from the Soviet system to independence. The plot revolves around a detective and a forensic psychiatrist investigating the mysterious murder of a police officer.

Porcelain War – the story of the Kharkov ceramic artist who stayed in the city during the war, fighting fear and the enemy.
After the rain: Putin’s stolen children come home Canadian director Sarah McCarthy – about the return of Ukrainian children illegally taken by the Russians to their families.
Peaceful people directed by Oksana Karpovich – a film that combines radio interceptions of conversations between the Russian occupiers and their families with a visual depiction of the devastation brought about by the war.
Among other international contenders, the Polish film attracts attention Under the volcanowhich tells the story of a Ukrainian family at the beginning of a massive Russian invasion.
The shortlists of nominees will be announced on December 17, and the full list of candidates for the 2025 Oscars will be known on January 17.
It was previously reported that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC announced that the 97th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
