‘Wicked’, a film that premieres this Thursday, 21st, has two surprise special appearances that promise to thrill the audience; find out!
This Thursday, the 21st, the film “Wicked”, an adaptation of the renowned Broadway musical, premieres in Brazilian cinemas, featuring the actresses Ariana Grande and Cynhtia Erivo in the roles of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively.
The plot takes place in the same universe as the literary work written by L. Frank Baum in 1900, “The Wizard of Oz”, also presenting visual influences from the 1939 adaptation of the book, which bears the same name, starring the actress Judy Garland.
In the story, we follow what happened to Elphaba and Glinda before the events presented in the book of L. Frank Baum and the 1930s adaptation, where we discover that the characters met a long time ago, when they studied together at Shiz University, and were even once close friends.
For those who don’t follow the musical theater industry, the plot presented in the film may be completely new, however, “Wicked” has been around for a long time, also appearing as a book in 1995, and being adapted for the stage by first time in 2003.
Today, the show has been running in New York for over 20 years, winning three Tony Awards, the main theater award in the world, and a Grammy Award for its soundtrack, in addition to having been adapted for the stages of other countries. countries, such as Brazil, where it has already had two appearances, and featured actresses Fabi Bang and Myra Ruiz playing Glinda and Elphaba, respectively.
Due to its enormous international renown, fans of “Wicked” can expect a series of Easter eggs throughout its 160-minute duration, ranging from dialogue to even the songs, which remain the same.
However, something that may surprise admirers of the franchise is a special appearance that many, despite wanting, did not expect could, in fact, happen.

The surprise happens when the film is heading towards the end, when Elphaba and Glinda arrive in the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz.
As they pass through the gates, while exploring the place, the number “One Short Day” begins, where the protagonists interact with numerous city residents. At a certain point, they are approached by two characters who simulate musical actresses, played by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowethactresses responsible for Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, in the original cast of “Wicked” on Broadway.
The moment becomes even more exciting because, while they sing, Kristin interacts with Glinda, played by Arianawhile Idina stands next to Elphaba, played by Cynthia.
It is worth remembering that, during the film’s premiere in Los Angeles, in the United States, the quartet also met on the red carpet, sending fans into euphoria — even though, until then, the special appearance of Menzel and Chenoweth had not yet been revealed to the public.
