See the characters returning in the new series

Disney is preparing for the launch of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” in Brazil, which hits the Disney+ catalog on December 4th. The series is derived from the classic “Wizards of Waverly Place”, originally shown in 2007 on Disney Channel.

This sequel brings back some iconic characters now in adulthood, with emphasis on David Henriewho reprises his role as Justin Russo. Now living a peaceful family life, Justin finds himself faced with new challenges with the unexpected arrival of his sister, Alex Russo (Selena Gomez), looking for help.

The plot revolves around a new group of young wizards learning the magical arts, while familiar figures from the original series return to provide nostalgic moments for fans. Check out the characters who returned in the first season.

1. Justin Russo (David Henrie)

David Henrie returns as Justin Russo. In the original Disney Channel series, aired between 2007 and 2012, Henrie played the young wizard Justin Russo. In the new version, Justin is married and lives in Staten Island with his wife Giada (Mimi Gianopulos) and their sons Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko). After twelve years since the end of the original series, Justin takes on the role of mentor to new young wizards, sharing the wisdom gained over the years. The plot gains tension when Alex Russo reappears asking for training for a new sorceress apprentice.

2. Alex Russo (Selena Gomez)

Selena Gomez makes a special appearance in the pilot episode as Alex Russo, explains Movie Web. During the years 2007 to 2012, Gomez She stood out in the role of the only female sister in the Russo family. Known for her independent and cunning personality, Alex often got into trouble both at school and at home. In the new storyline, she introduces Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), a young sorceress who must learn to live with other apprentices while improving her magical skills.

3. Jerry Russo (David DeLuise) and Theresa Russo (Maria Canals-Barrera)

David DeLuise also returns as Jerry Russo in the episode titled “We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Float”. In the original series, Jerry renounced his magical powers by marrying Theresa Russo (Maria Canals-Barrera), who is also back in the spin-off. In the new production, he dedicates himself to protecting his grandchildren Milo and Roman when new supernatural activities arise with the arrival of Alex and Billie.

Although some members of the Russo family have not yet appeared in the reboot’s inaugural season, there are expectations about possible returns in the future, if more seasons are made. In January 2024, it was announced by Entertainment Tonight that Jake T. Austin could return as Max Russo. So far, the actor’s participation has not yet been confirmed.
