Actor Mark Rylance, 64, would be one of Warner Bros.’ favorite names. to play Albus Dumbledore in the new series inspired by ‘Harry Potter’
Since its confirmation in 2023, the series that will once again adapt the books from the “Harry Potter” franchise has been highly anticipated by fans. In particular, one of the most anticipated moments by fans has been the revelation of the new cast that will bring the memorable characters to life on screen.
Earlier this week, Variety (via Omelete) reported that Warner Bros. There would already be a name mentioned to play the great Albus Dumbledore, director of Hogwarts: the actor Mark Rylance64 years old, known for roles in productions such as “Bridge of Spies”, “The Other”, “The Chicago Seven”, among others.
According to the portal, negotiations with Mark They haven’t started yet, however, he would be the studio’s favorite name to play Dumbledore. Also speaking to Variety, the HBO spokesperson did not confirm the information, revealing that the details will only be confirmed after the contracts are concluded.
“We appreciate that such a highly valued series receives this volume of rumor and speculation. While we are in the pre-production process, we will confirm details as we close contracts,” he said.
It is worth remembering that, in cinemas, Albus Dumbledore was played by two actors: Richard Harris (1930 – 2002), who played the teacher and director in “The Philosopher’s Stone” and “The Chamber of Secrets”, released in 2001 and 2002, respectively, and Michael Gambon (1940 – 2023), responsible for bringing the character of “The Prisoner of Azkaban” (2004) to life until the end of the saga.
Expected to premiere between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027, the first of the possible seven seasons of the “Harry Potter” series has not yet had an official release date announced. Likewise, the actors who will give life to the Golden Trio, the three protagonists: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, have not yet been chosen, nor is there any information about the return of actors from the films’ original cast.
