Understand the theory that links Andy to the animation Inside Out

Released at the beginning of the year, “Inside Out 2” became one of the most talked about and praised premieres of the year. In addition to the captivating narrative, an intriguing theory has resurfaced among animation fans.

Pixar is known for creating subtle connections between its works, through Easter eggs that challenge the perception of even the most attentive viewers. One of these supposed connections, which has not been confirmed, involves the protagonist Riley, from “Inside Out”, and the character Andy, from the “Toy Story” franchise.

The hypothesis circulating among fans on social media suggests that Riley could be Andy’s mother. This speculation began to gain strength due to some clues. Firstly, there is a physical similarity between Riley and Andy’s mother figure in “Toy Story”. Both share characteristics such as fair skin, straight blonde hair and blue eyes.

Additionally, a flashback in “Inside Out 2” shows Riley attending a daycare that looks a lot like Sunnyside, seen in “Toy Story 3”. Interestingly, this institution is located in the same city where Andy’s family lives.

Another detail that fuels this theory is the blue binoculars used by the character Tristeza in “Inside Out 2”, which resembles an accessory seen in “Toy Story.” For fans, these details could suggest that the two stories unfold within the same fictional universe.

However, there is a time point that challenges this theory. While the events of “Toy Story 3” take place in the 2000s, “Inside Out” is set in the 2010s, possibly in 2015. Such a chronological discrepancy could indicate that Riley is not Andy’s mother.

Pixar itself has already revealed in a video that its productions are interconnected through subtle plots. This raises expectations about possible future confirmations of these theories. So far, however, the story created and discussed by internet users has not been confirmed.
