The tragic accident involving the k-pop group Ladies’ Code

10 years ago, the K-pop industry was dealing with the tragic car accident involving girl group Ladies’ Code. Remember the case!

In 2013, Polaris Entertainment debuted its new girl group, Ladies’ Code, formed by five members: Ashley, Sojung, EunB, RiSe and Zuny. Being extremely anticipated as it contained members who were already known to the public, the group debuted on March 7th with the single “Bad Girl”.

Throughout the year, the group released tracks such as “Hate You” and “Pretty Pretty”, which did not have a very impressive result on the charts. At the beginning of 2014, they released “So Wonderful”, before the arrival of their last comeback with five members in August: “Kiss Kiss”.

The accident

Just under a month later, Ladies’ Code would face a tragedy that shocked not only the K-pop industry, but also the entire world.

On September 3, the girl group returned to Seoul, the capital of South Korea, after attending the recording of the KBS “Open Concert” in Daegu, when, according to information released by Polaris and reported by the newspaper Extra at the time, at around 1:30 am ( local time), in Suwon, with the road wet due to rain, the rear wheel detached from the vehicle in which the members were traveling, overturning several times until coming to rest against a protection bar.

With the beat, EunBwho was just 22 years old, ended up dying at the scene. Despite Ashleyand Zuny do not suffer serious injuries, Sojung and RiSe They were found in critical condition and rushed to Ajou University Hospital, where they remained hospitalized.

Amid anguish over the situation of hospitalized members, Ashley and Zuny still had the strength to attend his funeral. EunBwhich took place on September 5th.

At the hospital, RiSewho had a serious head injury, underwent a series of surgeries, but did not survive her injuries, dying four days after the accident, on September 7, 2014, at the age of 23. The artist’s death was confirmed by her company, Polaris Entertainment, through a note, which said:

“At the time of the accident, on the 3rd, RiSe had a large head injury and was taken to the hospital. She was operated on as much as possible for a long time, but she eventually passed away. Her parents, who came from Japan, and the band’s staff stayed with her at the end. We are sorry to share another sad news since EunB’s death and we cannot hide our pain.”

Sojungwho suffered a series of fractures, ended up being transferred to the hospital in Wonju, her hometown, but managed to recover. As a tribute to the members who passed away, Polaris released a video for the song “I’m Fine, Thank You”, featured on the album “Pretty Pretty”.

Resilience

After the accident, Ashley, Sojung and Zuny they remained on hiatus for almost two years, undergoing medical and psychological follow-up. Their long-awaited comeback as a trio took place in 2016 through the album “Myst3ry”, which featured the song “Galaxy” as the title track, receiving a clip with some Easter eggs that refer to the RiSe and EunB.

Ladies’ Code’s most recent release took place in October 2019, with the release of the album “CODE#03 SET ME FREE”, which was accompanied by the title track “SET ME FREE”.

On February 17, 2020, the group announced that, with the end of their contracts with Polaris Entertainment, they would be entering a new hiatus, however, they never confirmed an official disbandment. Today, Ashley, Sojung and Zuny They continue focusing on solo projects, however, they remain very friends and meet frequently.
