This Thursday, 31st, G-Dragonfrom BIGBANG, made his long-awaited solo comeback with the single “POWER”. The MV features several references to their previous works, including some elements that recall BIGBANG itself. Check it out below!
G-Dragon hasn’t released new music since the mini-album “Know Ji Yong”, which hit digital platforms seven years ago, in 2017. Furthermore, in his recent participation in the program “You Quiz on the Block”, on the South Korean network tvN , he spoke about the meaning behind his new single:
It’s a song about strength, but strength is relative. There are different types of strength, such as physical strength and endurance. For me, my true strength is music. Looking back at my seven-year hiatus from an outside perspective, I realize how significant the power of media is these days. This song satirizes this power, exploring the idea of uniting different forms of force in a medium that encompasses multiple meanings.”
BIGBANG’s return at MAMA
Even though BIGBANG is on hiatus that has lasted two years, South Korean broadcaster CJ ENM held a press conference last Tuesday, 29th (via Soompi), to present the main news of the MAMA Awards 2024. In addition to reveal the collaborative presentations between great artists, the event’s production indicated a reunion of the boy group at the awards ceremony.
The chief producer, Yoon Shin Hyefirst commented on the confirmation ofG-Dragon as one of the performers, marking the star’s return to the awards show after nine years. However, he also mentioned a possible participation by BIGBANG, ensuring that the possibility is still under discussion:
We were thinking of ways to make this year’s stage distinctive, and the iconic G-Dragon, who is set to make his return this year, came to mind. G-Dragon himself holds the MAMA stage in high regard and expressed that he intends to give a memorable performance this year. We are confident he will create another iconic stage that will be remembered for the next 20 years. We can also feel his confidence in his ability to command the stage (…) BIGBANG’s appearance is still under discussion. We will provide an update once we have a final decision.”
