Ship Zvezda remained the sole supplier of vessels for the Novatek project, however, out of 15 orders, not one was ready.
Russia’s largest liquefied gas project, Novatek’s Arctic LNG-2, has lost its last foreign supplier of ice-class tankers. This was reported by the Moscow Times.
Japan’s Mitsui OSK, which has ordered the construction of three gas carriers for Arctic LNG-2, has warned that it will not be able to deliver the vessels due to increased Western sanctions. Tanks manufactured for Novatek may be sold to third parties.
Three more tankers for the Arctic LNG-2 were built by the South Korean shipyard Hanwha Ocean at the request of Sovcomflot’s subsidiaries, and it terminated the contract at the end of 2022, citing sanctions and payment difficulties from the Russian Federation .
The Rosneft-controlled ship Zvezda remained the sole supplier of gas tankers for the Novatek project. However, of the 15 ships it was supposed to build, none have been built.
Losing tankers and buyers, Arctic LNG 2 halted production in October, sources familiar with the situation told Bloomberg. Since August, the Arctic LNG-2 has sent eight shipments of liquefied gas, but none of them could be sold, despite the connection of the “shadow fleet” and discounts of up to 40% on market prices.
We remind you that sanctioned tankers with Russian liquefied natural gas have been assembled near the Far Eastern coast of the Russian Federation, indicating difficulties in finding buyers under Western restrictions.
