INTERVIEW – In Constance Pittar’s new show, Inconstance, the comedian puts her audience on the sofa and forces them to listen to the thoughts of a bipolar person, herself.
Comedian Constance Pittar’s new solo performance is unlike any of her previous shows. Not even her costumed appearances on France 2’s On n’demande que à en riz, which revealed it in 2010. Don’t try to compare it to his columns. France Inter:nor her sisters for that matter. This theatrical UFO recounts his burnout in 2021, which forced him to put his work on indefinite hiatus and his hospitalization after finally being diagnosed with bipolar disorder; a psychiatric illness that affects about 1.6 million French people. Before getting proper treatment, the 30-year-old went through depression, a breakup, several stays in a mental hospital, financial bankruptcy and suicide attempts. About the 18 months of hell, which he tells today on the stage of the Comedie de Paris in “Incongruity”, with disarming sincerity, freed from the shame of being considered “mad”, “infallible”.
