With just over a month to go until the premiere of “Moana 2”, a film that follows up on Disney’s tenth princess’s first feature-length film released in 2016, fans have already seen through the previews that Moana will embark on a mission full of challenges. and new responsibilities, since, while sailing the sea with new allies, he will also need to face new antagonists to fulfill the call he received from his ancestors.
This is because, the daughter of the chief of a community of the Motonui ethnic group from Polynesia, will face the distant seas of Oceania to find new people beyond the island where she lives and connect her community with other people, as shown in the official trailer; remember!
But who are the new members of Moana’s family, the new villains and the new crew that will sail with the protagonist through the waters towards the unknown? RECREIO has gathered the main information about the new characters from the franchise below; check it out:
SIMEA
Moana now has a sister! The youngest of the family is Simea, a character originally voiced by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsudawhose relationship with the princess is inspired by the experience that David Derrick Jr.the director of the plot, lived with his children, Sameaaged 21, and a youngest son, just seven.
That’s because, “Moana is not just her big sister, she’s a guardian and a leader to Simea, but Moana has this unique relationship where she’s the only one who can talk to Simea like a peer and reach her deep down,” as revealed Kevin Webbone of the title’s animators, told Entertainment Weekly.
Furthermore, the dynamic between Simea and Moana in which both suffer from a temporary goodbye has a direct connection with what the children of David lived during the Covid-19 pandemic, as the brothers had to remain distant during the period of social isolation, as the family’s eldest daughter did not live with them both.
“He would grab her and say, ‘Samea, when are we going to live together forever again?’ It was so hard, but I was seeing things that we all have to go through as we grow up. It’s beautiful and it’s hard,” she recalled the filmmaker told EW.
NALO

Nalo is the god of storms. Described as the most “fearsome and powerful” being that Moana has ever faced in her story, the character is also meant to reflect the strength of community and connection between people, which is the central theme of the film, as it recognizes that when people come together, nothing can be stronger than this union.
“Nalo realizes that there is nothing more dangerous than the power of humans,” Lee teases. “When they’re together, they can do anything. The world becomes theirs,” Walt Disney Animation chief creative officer Jennifer Lee tells EW.
MATAGANI
Secondary antagonist, there is still little information about Matagani, who is described as a mysterious and enigmatic character. It is also known that she has a deep connection with nature and has the ability to control bats.
In the preview revealed this Tuesday, 22nd, it is possible to see some details of Matagani’s look; see above:
THE NEW CREW

The team that will help her on her next mission features familiar names such as the demigod Maui, and Moana’s pets, the pig Pua and the rooster HeiHei, as well as a crew of newcomers: the engineer Loto, the farmer Kele and enthusiastic Maui superfan Moni.
