See what were the points commented by Hanni, from NewJeans in the state audit of the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee
The state audit of the Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly took place today, the 15th, and was attended by Hanniof NewJeans, who testified on issues related to workplace bullying.
See below what the singer’s main statements were:
The reason
In the statement given by the idol, she revealed that the reason she agreed to participate in the audit was the incident she mentioned in a live and independent broadcast held on September 11 with the other members of NewJeans, where she claimed to have seen the manager of another record label group instructing members to avoid speaking to NewJeans members.
With this, she stated during the new speech that she wants the situation she experienced to serve as an example and not to repeat it with other artists.
“I don’t understand why I have to go through this and why this person would say something like that in a work environment. This has happened more than once or twice, and if I continue to remain silent, it will pass and be buried. This can happen to anyone. I decided to participate, hoping that current interns, seniors, juniors or colleagues do not experience this,” Hanni told the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee.
Ignored
In addition to the situation that led to the audit, the artist also revealed that, since her debut, she noticed that even when she greeted the superiors she met as an act of politeness, her greetings were not answered.
“At the beginning of my debut, I met several superiors, but they never greeted me when I greeted them. While living in Korea, I understood that you should greet your elders well. I thought not greeting them was rude as a person. There was a certain kind of atmosphere in the company. It’s hard to say anything, and only people who have been affected can feel that.”
She also said that even the president of HYBE, Bang Si Hyuknever greeted her back, making her think he is someone “rude”.
“President Bang Si Hyuk never accepted my greetings. I understand that in Korea it is culturally required that you show respect to your elders, but seeing as how he never accepted my greetings, I think he is a rude person.”
Hated?
At the hearing, another complaint made by Hanni it was about the comments from HYBE employees she observed through the Blind app, as they had negative messages about NewJeans, making her convinced that “the company hated us”.
“I also saw employees badmouthing the group on the Blind app. I even saw the director of the PR team trying to lower our Japanese debut score. Seeing this, I realized it wasn’t just a feeling, but I was convinced that the company hated us.” , concluded.
New management
It is worth remembering that, on August 27th of this year, Min Hee Jinthe businesswoman responsible for creating NewJeans, was removed from her position as CEO of ADOR, and the position was now occupied by Kim Joo Youngan HR (human resources) specialist.
With the change, Hanni criticized the company’s current executive director, stating that Kim Joo Young makes false promises, and believes that she has not done what she can to ensure that NewJeans has the protection promised by the CEO.
“Sorry, but I don’t think you [Kim Joo Young] did your best! There is more you can do. Furthermore, you keep saying that you will protect us, if you really want to protect us, you have no choice but to fight for us. But you don’t fight for us, there isn’t any kind of action either, so I don’t think you did your best.”
Conclusion
At the end of the speech, Hanni reinforced that he is grateful for the concern and support he has received since reporting the incident.
“I feel that if we respected each other as humans, at the very least, issues like workplace harassment and other sensitive issues would not exist. I am very grateful for the attention you have given to this matter, and I truly hope that none of the veterans, colleagues , juniors or interns here have to worry about things like this. I saw that a lot of people are worried about us, and I’m very grateful. I also saw a lot of comments asking why I had to go through something like this in Korea. What I’m saying here is that there’s no need to feel regretful. In Korea, I’ve met members and staff that I love very much and consider family, and it’s a country where I get to do the work that I love, so I don’t quite understand why. that you are apologizing.
On the contrary, the people who should be apologizing should confidently present themselves as if they have done nothing wrong without avoiding accountability, but instead they keep dodging situations like this, which is really frustrating. I don’t know how else to express my gratitude, but even the Australian Embassy contacted my parents because of their concerns about us. I am very grateful for their offer of help and their concern.
Ultimately, if I have to come here again, I will work even harder on my Korean and leave better prepared. Thanks. I really appreciate it, and you all worked really hard.”
The case remains ongoing.
