Despite high expectations, Joker: Madness for Two did not meet box office forecasts, threatening Warner Bros. losses of up to $200 million.
The production of Joker: Madness for Two cost Warner Bros. Discovery at $200 million, with total marketing and distribution costs of another $100 million.
However, in its first two weeks of release, Todd Phillips’ film with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga only collected $165 million worldwide, reports Variety.
Insiders say the film needs to make at least $450 million to break even, although some put the figure at $375 million. However, the final gross is expected to be only $210-$215 million, which could result in a loss for WB of $150-$200 million.
A WB spokesperson dismissed the predictions as “exaggerated rumors,” but if they’re true, the movie could become one of the biggest flops in comic book movie history, especially after the billion-dollar success of the first stage.
It was previously reported that Searchlight Pictures has unveiled a trailer for the musical biopic Completely Unknown, which focuses on legendary rock musician Bob Dylan.
