These villains, who torment the lives of superheroes, also had childhoods — and their past can explain everything terrible they do today!
Electrifying!
Max Dillion, known as Electro, is the son of Annita and Jonattan. Raised by his protective mother in New York (United States) — his father left when he was 8 years old — he had no freedom as a child. He ended up working at Oscorp companies and was struck by lightning (in the film version, he was shocked, fell into an aquarium with eels and was bitten).
Nobody cared about him
Despite having grown up alongside his brother Thor, Loki did not receive the same treatment. Thor was always the most admired by his parents (and gods) Odin and Jord — even when Loki got a higher grade on tests, the other was always more praised. Therefore, he grew jealous of his brother and became evil.
What color is this?
Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, was similar to the other witches of Oz, except for one characteristic: only she was born green. There, he suffered prejudice as a child. Furthermore, Dorothy’s house fell on the head of the Wicked Witch of the East (sister of the Wicked Witch of the West), who had magic shoes. The shoe ended up on Dorothy’s feet. Now, Elphaba wants revenge for her sister’s death — and her shoes back.
The Mysterious
Little is known about Mystique. After all, she changes her appearance whenever she wants! But, according to the mutant herself, the powers appeared at the age of 12. The family was scared and Mística had to turn around (and fight) to survive. One version of the story says that, also around the age of 12, she met Professor Xavier. The two became friends, but the mutant went to Magneto’s side
He wanted to be an athlete
Little James liked sports and didn’t like studying. He lived in the city of Eton (England) with his mother. At school, he wanted to participate in Sports Day, to be the strongest and tallest, but he couldn’t sign up due to lack of money. So he stole all the trophies and went to Never Land — where he had one of his hands ripped off by a crocodile and became Captain Hook.
Abandoned!

Some time ago, the witch Merope Gaunt made a love potion for the muggle Tom Riddle. Pregnant and left by her husband, she had Tom Marvolo Riddle in an orphanage and died. The boy lived there until he was 11 years old and always showed signs of being a witch (he caused pain to others). Dumbledore took him to Hogwarts. Over time, Tom created an anagram: Tom Marvolo Riddle — Here is Lord Voldemort.
Not that bad
Anakin Skywalker lived with his mother, Shmi, on the planet of Tatooine, where they were slaves in a junkyard. In his free time, he built equipment and robots, like C-3PO. With the arrival of the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was freed and began training to become a Jedi. Years later, he was drawn to the dark side of the Force — Darth Vader appeared.
Small
Fisherman Sméagol was from a race similar to the Hobbits, who lived on the banks of the River Anduin, in Middle Earth. Unlike the Hobbits of the Shire, he loved to fish. One day, while fishing with his cousin Déagol, he found a ring. The two fought over the object, until Sméagol took it and fled. He wandered for years, while his body changed, until he became Gollum (the name comes from the noise he made when he choked).
It wasn’t easy

The Jew Max Eisenhardt lived with his parents during the Second World War (from 1939 to 1945). He was taken to a concentration camp in Poland, where he was alone. At that moment, he demonstrated powers: he tried to open the gate that separated him from his family — another version says that the power appeared in adulthood, in a fire. He became friends with Professor Xavier, but followed the evil side of the mutant cause against humanity under the name Magneto.
How much disturbance!
The Joker’s childhood is mysterious, but it is said that his name is Joseph Kerr. As a child, he had problems after his parents separated. In a moment of anger, while the boy was crying, the father cut his son’s mouth. From then on, Joseph got involved in fights at school and was admitted to a psychiatric center. When he left there, he committed crimes and adopted the nickname because of his scars.
All for the father
Harry Osborn is the son of Norman and Emily, who died a few years after he was born in New York (United States). The boy was always spoiled. As a teenager, he was Peter Parker’s best friend. When his father (the first Green Goblin) died in a fight against Spider-Man, Harry wanted revenge and took his father’s place and equipment – a new Green Goblin was born.
