Many Pixar films feature allusions to experiences that actually happened; find out if this was the case with ‘Luca’!
Several films from Pixar studios were inspired by the real world, such as ‘Up — Altas Aventuras’, where the character Russell had the director Peter Son as a model for the development of physical characteristics, while the film’s villain, Charles Muntz, was inspired by Charles Mintza former director.
Therefore, whenever a new animation appears, it is common that one of the main curiosities that fans strive to discover is what are the inspirations behind the new titles — no different from when “Luca” debuted in 2021, as the A plot full of adventures experienced in Italy by the title character and his best friend, Alberto, raised doubts about the existence of connections with stories that really happened.
After all, does Pixar’s ‘Luca’ have inspiration from the real world?
The truth is that yes, ‘Luca’ is inspired by the real world! This connection occurs through the friendship between the main duo, as this was inspired by the director’s experience. Enrico Casarosawho grew up in Genoa with his best friend — whose name is the same as Luca’s friend Alberto.
“My best friend Alberto was a bit of a troublemaker, (while) I was very shy and had a somewhat sheltered life — we couldn’t have been more different. Alberto pushed me out of my comfort zone, and pushed me off many cliffs, metaphorically and no. I probably wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t learned to pursue my dreams with him”, said Casarosa in an excerpt shared by the website DitoCinema.
It is worth remembering that, in the film, Luca and Alberto are sea monsters who take on human forms on dry land, but they only decide to explore the fictional city of Portorosso together with the encouragement of Alberto, who encourages Luca to discover more about the world with fantasy stories that they were fueled by a great desire of the title character: to have a red motorcycle known as Vespa.
As a result, they explore the city and meet Giulia, who ends up completing the trio who just want to have fun and eat well — something that would be easy to accomplish if it weren’t for Luca and Alberto’s secret: underwater, they are real monsters. marine.
In addition to the personalities of Luca and Alberto, another real inspiration can be noted, as the city of Portorosso emerged through attributes that can be noted in the Cinque Terre region, which is in Liguria, in Northern Italy, and brings together the Riomaggiore villages , Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare.
Portorosso is a mix of all five, it’s as if we had created our sixth village. Certainly, the most striking and famous in the region is the pesto sauce. We try to show this in the film, the family’s relationship with this dish, in addition to port life, fishermen and the entire culture that revolves around this relationship with the sea”, Enrico Casarosa told oGlobo.
“Luca” is available in the Disney+ catalog.
