Remember what happened in ‘Joker’

Released in 2019, “Joker” will have its story continued in the film that opens in theaters today, 03; remember the plot of the first film!

Opening this Thursday, 3rd, “Joker: Delirium for Two” will continue the events presented in “Joker” (2019), following the criminal trial of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) — who is now no longer alone, as he ends up gaining an ally, Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga), with whom he can share his madness.

It is worth remembering that the first film was released five years ago, so it is possible that some events have fallen into oblivion. With that in mind, RECREIO will remember what happened in the plot directed by Todd Phillips in order to prepare Clown Prince fans to follow the new story on the big screen.

What happened in ‘Joker’?

In the film, Arthur Fleck is introduced as a clown who performs various temporary jobs while trying to become a famous stand-up comedian. Trying to make his dream work, he also needs to divide his time to take care of his mother, Penny (Frances Conroy), who lives in the hospital.

The lack of stability and the difficulty in managing his own life are made more complicated by Arthur having a neurological disorder that causes him to have fits of laughter in moments of nervousness, leaving anyone around him scared when the incessant laughter takes place at times. inopportune. Due to his condition, Arthur finds himself excluded by society.

Worse than that, Gotham is experiencing political and social chaos, amidst the municipal elections where Thomas Wayne (Brett Cullen) campaigns for mayor and a strike by sanitation professionals, crime rises in the city, something that ends up affecting Arthur, as he is attacked by young troublemakers while working as a clown.

In the midst of this, Arthur also ends up fired from his job as a clown, has medical treatment for his condition cut off by the government, and uncovers the truth behind his origins, discovering that his mother lied to him all these years, since he was adopted and a victim of childhood abuse.

The big twist begins to take shape when Arthur is attacked again, only this time on the subway, where he ends up killing his attackers, who were young Wayne employees. This sparked public revolt against the richest 1% of Gotham, who began using Arthur’s makeup in protest.

During the same period, a recording of a stand-up performance, where Arthur is mocked by the audience during one of his fits of laughter, reaches the hands of his greatest idol: Murray Franklin, host of the city’s main talk show. Thinking he would be praised by Murray, Fleck ends up surprised by the presenter’s mockery, who calls him “Joker”.

Still, Arthur is called to Franklin’s talk show, where he admits that he killed the three men on the subway while giving a speech about the neglect experienced in Gotham. On this occasion, he assumes the name “Joker” and ends up killing the presenter live, with the scene broadcast on TV to all the citizens of Gotham.

Fleck’s action leads several city residents to take to the streets committing crimes, and among these is the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne (Carrie Louise Putrello), responsible for leaving young Bruce an orphan (Dante Pereira-Olson) — who will become Batman.

In the meantime, Arthur, who enjoyed the general chaos on the hood of a car, is captured and taken to Arkham Asylum, ending the film incarcerated in a room alongside several criminals with psychological disorders.
