Remember some covers performed by girl groups of iconic songs originally sung by boy groups
The striking and elaborate choreographies are a staple of K-pop. Over the years, groups and soloists released singles that featured memorable dances, which are replicated by countless idols from different generations to this day.
Although the steps for boy groups and girl groups are generally choreographed in very different ways, with the girls’ steps being more delicate and sensual, while the boys’ steps are energetic and powerful, this does not stop the artists from showing off their dancing talent by perfectly performing covers of other stars of the opposite gender.
With that in mind, RECREIO separated 5 covers made by girl groups of songs originally sung by boy groups that are impossible to forget. Check it out!
1. DREAMCATCHER — Bang Bang Bang
In 2018, during the Hallyu Festival, held in Jeju, South Korea, DREAMCATCHER paid homage to BIGBANG, one of the main boy groups of the second generation, with a cover of their hit “BANG BANG BANG”, originally released in 2015.
2. IZ*ONE — Energetic
The “Produce” reality show franchise was responsible for creating some iconic groups, both female and male. During the 2018 MAMA Awards, IZ*ONE, formed on “Produce 48”, paid homage to Wanna One, created on the second season of “Produce 101”, by performing their debut track “Energetic”, while the boy group watched the live performance from the audience.
3. LOONA — Cherry Bomb
LOONA is recognized to this day for always delivering powerful performances — even in covers. In 2019, the girl group shared a cover of “Cherry Bomb”, a track by NCT 127, on their YouTube channel, which soon became viral among K-pop fans, causing the group to even perform the song on the K-pop stage. KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER. Today, the video already has more than 24 million views.
4. Girls’ Generation — Sorry Sorry
Nothing better than honoring your friends, right? Both SM Entertainment groups, Girls’ Generation and Super Junior always demonstrate their friendship, whether supporting each other in their releases, participating in their programs, or performing covers of their songs. On a few occasions, for example, SNSD has performed the track “Sorry Sorry”, one of the boy group’s biggest hits, at different events, such as at “Star Dance Battle” in 2009.
5. (G)I-DLE — Fake Love
International events focused on Hallyu always yield unforgettable covers. In 2018, shortly after their debut, (G)I-DLE was invited to participate in the edition of M COUNTDOWN in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, and paid homage to BTS by giving an impeccable performance of one of their biggest releases at the time: “Fake Love”.
