Motherhood, aging, the relationship with the body, her point of view on the female gaze in cinema… the confidences of the 49-year-old actress and director, a few hours before the L’Oréal Paris show, of which she is: Ambassador since 2005.
To cheers from the public, she walked the catwalk at the L’Oréal Paris fashion show on Monday, September 23 at the Opéra Garnier. In her long white dress with a train and a plunging neckline decorated with a river of diamonds, Eva Longoria caused a sensation again on this occasion. podium which opened Paris Fashion Week. Lipstick in one hand and greeting fans with the other, the actress graced her audience with big smiles that more than made up for the gloomy weather of the evening. Behind it the message “Walk with confidencee” (“Walk confidently” in French) is displayed on the giant screen. However, on the very morning of the event, the director Flamin’ Hot shared with us her apprehension about the idea of playing models. A confidence that is hard to believe as the heroine of the series Desperate HousewivesSince her first fashion show for the French cosmetics brand in 2017, she seems comfortable in the role and experienced in the exercise, with her age and body, she tells us. a few hours ago to show.
Madame Figaro: This year, the L’Oréal Paris fashion show takes place at the Opéra Garnier. Do you remember the last time you went there?
Eva Longoria: I always pass by the Opera House, but I’ve never been there. So I’m really looking forward to finding out. But every year L’Oréal organizes something iconic for its fashion show. I always look forward to seeing what it will be like, from the Champs-Élysées to the Seine, through the Eiffel Tower, or even the Opéra… I don’t know how they manage to outdo themselves year after year. .
What are your favorite places in Paris?
I love the Seine, I love walking along the Seine. I love Notre Dame. It’s one of my favorite places. But I just love walking in Paris, everywhere. I pass by the cafe on the corner and say. “Oh my god, how beautiful!” I pass by the bakery and say: “Oh my god, they have apple turnover!” Everything about Paris amazes me.
How does it feel to be put in the shoes of a model?
It is terrible. I’m always terrified because I’m not a model and walking the runway is extremely stressful. Especially when you have a dress that is difficult to wear. I always say to myself. “Oh my god, please be careful!” But it’s fun, really! I think our fashion show is quite unique because there are actors, models, singers, it’s a very different show. I love being with all the ambassadors, Aishwarya Rai, Soo Joo [Park NDLR]and now we have Kendall [Jenner] and Kara [Delevingne]. It’s always a pleasure to be with all these speakers.
As a director, how do you choose your next projects?
Oh my god, this is so hard. I’m trying to choose my next project at the moment, and it’s very difficult because when you direct, it really involves putting years of your life into it, and you have to put 100% into it. I’ve read so many scripts where I didn’t feel what I felt when I read them Flamin’ Hot (film by him, released in 2023, editor’s note). It’s like a standard that tells me how I should feel. I should be as excited as I was for my last film, so I need time to decide.
As an actress, you have also worked with female directors. How is it different from working with male directors, from your perspective?
I think the female gaze is very important in cinema, and I think it is very different from the male gaze. Everyone is different, whether you are male or female, but telling a story through a female lens is different and it all depends on the story you want to convey. But I like to support female directors. As soon as I get to work with a woman behind the camera, I say yes.

What was the most difficult for you?
The time. Time is the most precious thing I have, and therefore deciding which projects to devote my time to is the hardest. Like I said, directing takes up a lot of my time and so I think it’s the hardest thing for me to manage. It involves spending time away from my family, so I have to really, really love a project for it to give me time away from my family.
Are you really a mother? How has motherhood changed your beauty routine?
I probably care a little less because I don’t have the time. I want easy routines, easy beauty products that do a lot of things. I have high expectations so I don’t want to use 20 different products. I want to use three of them and I want them to do the same job as 20 products. That’s what I love about technology, especially skin care and makeup. I want my foundation and makeup to be hydrating and nourishing for my skin. And that my lipstick is long lasting but also moisturizes my lips. I need them backed up. That’s probably because since Santi’s birth (Santiago Basto, her 5-year-old son editor’s note)I’m just shortening these routines, but without compromising on what needs to be done.
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
You know, I like what I see in the mirror. I wake up feeling really grateful, grateful for my body, grateful for my mind, grateful for my life. Every time I look in the mirror, I am very kind to myself. I like what I see. I definitely tell myself. Because how you talk to yourself matters. I think there are people who wake up and say, “Oh my God, what is that? It’s a new wrinkle.” I don’t do any of that. I’m not saying negative talk or anything. I have a really positive relationship with my face, body and mind.

In an industry that values perfection and youth, what is your relationship with natural beauty and natural aging?
Well, we all age, it’s inevitable. And I find that exciting. I like getting older because it means getting wiser and I like to accumulate all the experiences I have.
Since the beginning of your career, you have appeared on red carpets in a very glamorous look, but in recent years you have shown yourself naturally on social networks as well…
I’m often without makeup on Instagram or social media because that’s how I am at home with my son. I cook, I work, I read, I’m busy so I don’t see how that would be a problem. I love this process, I love getting dressed, doing my hair and makeup. I love red carpets, but I also love being at home in my pajamas with no makeup on and just holding my son.
You are a role model for many women. Was it easy for you to take on the role?
Yes, I happily embrace the idea of role-playing. I like to be an example of what a woman can be. And I think women can’t be what they can’t see, so when I can impart my wisdom or experience to others and they can learn from it, I’m always up for that role.

Something you envy French women?
I feel they are effortlessly chic and beautiful. I envy that. French women are simply stunning and when you look at their makeup, hair or clothes, it’s so simple and classic. I feel like I’m trying too hard to look like this…
