Find out why BTS’ Jin used to be so popular among army soldiers during his military enlistment days
In June of this year, ARMYs welcomed the first BTS member to be officially discharged from mandatory military service: Jin. The star’s return was celebrated worldwide, on and off digital platforms, where even the HYBE building, the conglomerate that manages the group’s career, gained a special facade in celebration of his return.
Just like the fans, JinHe was also eager to reunite with ARMYs after 18 months apart and, shortly after leaving the military base, he made a point of doing a live broadcast to talk to his fans while still in uniform, where he told a little about his experience.
Since then, the idol has always talked about his days as a soldier in interviews, satisfying the curiosity of fans who also always ask him for more details about this period of his life. In a recent interview with WeVerse Magazine, Jin He spoke about his relationship with other soldiers, revealing that he was very popular among the military.
During the conversation, the oldest member of BTS commented that he always treated seniors and juniors very well, making a point of buying delicious food for the younger soldiers whenever he could.
“I spent way more than my military salary to buy food for others (laughs),” he revealed. “These kids are either just turning 20 or just starting to prepare for the real world. Compared to them, I have more financial freedom and I feel like they should be able to eat delicious food and be healthy, so I bought food for them.”
Second Jindue to his affection for other soldiers, some soldiers began to call him “God”, and joked that everyone around him should worship him.
“I bought them so much chicken, jokbal (Korean pig’s feet), and pizza that they couldn’t eat anymore, and I took the kids from other units to eat at KBBQ (Korean barbecue) restaurants. If some friends joked that all I did was sleep, I would ask which unit they were from and joke that I was going to buy them food today but shouldn’t anymore because of what they said. Then they would say, ‘I’m sorry!’ We would joke like that, but I would still take them out to eat (laughs). It’s funny to say this myself, but I was known as the ‘God,’ and the kids would say, ‘Worship him!’ (laughs).”
