Broadcasters SBT and Globo, together with streaming service Prime Video, are negotiating a possible return of the broadcast of “Chaves” and “Chapolín” to Brazil
According to Folha de S. Paulo, broadcasters SBT and Globo, together with streaming service Prime Video, are negotiating with Televisa and Grupo Chespirito for the broadcast of the series “Chaves” and “Chapolín” to return to Brazil.
Both stories, which became known in the 70s, feature the same actor (Roberto Gomez Bolanos) playing the two protagonists, the first being an orphan boy who lives in a small village and the second a clumsy superhero.
Currently, only the animated version of “Chaves” is available in Amazon’s catalog. However, as the rights holders of both series maintain a good relationship with the corporation, the return of the series is a possibility that could happen soon.
Furthermore, the decision to re-air them is in line with a change in strategy by Grupo Chespirito for territories outside Mexico. Recently, the Group asked Televisa, which airs the creations of Roberto Bolaños in the country, an increase in the amount paid for international exhibition and sales rights.
Initially, the Mexican broadcaster refused to comply with the request, generating a conflict that was only resolved now, in 2024. During that period, no country around the world has shown “Chaves” or “Chapolín”, but that could change soon.
