Discover all the films released by Pixar studios over the company’s nearly forty years that have not received any sequels.
Do you know what a work that continues the story of another is called? Sequel! This solution has been widely used in the film world today, whether to continue classic feature films from the past that became instant hits with critics and audiences, such as “Beetlejuice” (1988), whose second film is showing around the world, or more recent plots, where sequels appear with little space in between, such as “Inside Out” (2017), by Pixar, which in June of this year brought new emotions to Riley’s mind in the title that can still be seen in some cinemas in Brazil.
In the case of Pixar, sequels have been gaining more and more space in the catalog of plots produced by the studio, since, after the first was released with “Toy Story 2” (1999), which follows the adventures of Andy’s dolls presented in 1995, the company also released new plots for “The Incredibles” (2004); which currently has its third feature film in production and “Cars” (2006), which became a trilogy.
Still, many narratives that took shape through the studio’s drafts have yet to receive a sequel, although some of them have gained new stories set in the same universe, such as prequels and spin-offs. Are you curious about which ones they are? Don’t worry, RECREIO has gathered them all in the list below:
A Bug’s Life (1998)
Following the ant Flik who, due to his clumsy ways, put the existence of the colony in which he lives in danger, and who, to avoid fatalities, decides to recruit fighters to defend the place, “A Bug’s Life” is Pixar’s oldest animation without a sequel.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
With the arrival of a human in Monstropolis, the city where Mike, Sulley and many other monsters live goes into a panic crisis, after all, in this place where the screams of frightened children are collected to generate energy for the metropolis, people are considered toxic.
Even though the plot is one of Pixar’s most beloved, and could have continued the events by having Sulley search for little Boo by going through several wooden portals again (or vice versa), the studio never continued “Monsters Inc.” (2001).
Finding Nemo (2003)
“Finding Nemo” tells the story of the titular clownfish’s journey back to the ocean, after being captured by a diver and ending up in a dentist’s aquarium, who hatches a plan to escape. At the same time, Nemo’s father crosses the ocean with Dory to rescue him.
Ratatouille (2007)
The plot about a rat who wants to be a chef is also on the list. Although there are no loose ends left, as Remy manages to fulfill his dream of running a restaurant by being employed at Ego and Linguini’s La Ratatouille, a sequel could cover new culinary adventures of the rodent in competitions or traveling around the world.
Wall-e (2008)
What happened to humanity at the end of “Wall-e (2008)”? This is one of the questions that could be solved with a sequel to the plot that follows a robot in charge of cleaning up planet Earth, which, taken over by garbage and atmospheric pollution with toxic gases, is no longer inhabited, since the population began to live in a gigantic spaceship in space, returning only when a life form is found by Wall-E and his eternal love, Eve.
Up (2009)
After sharing incredible years with his late wife Ellie, Carl Fredricksen, a balloon salesman in his late eighties, decides to embark on an adventure in the heights to fulfill the last great dream he shared with the woman with whom he spent much of his life: living in Paradise Falls, a place located in the mountains of Venezuela.
This is because a large construction company was transforming the neighborhood’s residences into buildings, and decided not to sell the home that holds so many happy memories, he tied several balloons around the house to float to the destination he had dreamed of, experiencing great challenges along the way.
Brave (2012)

In 2015, Pixar released “The Good Dinosaur”, whose story was born from a question: what if the asteroid that hit Earth and changed the entire dynamics of life on the planet had diverted its route and the dinosaurs had continued to live?
Finding Dory (2016)
A spin-off of “Finding Nemo”, in 2016, “Finding Dory” was released, which follows Marlin and Nemo’s forgotten friend traveling the ocean to find her family, although on this journey, she ends up getting into several dangers.

Lightyear (2022)
A prequel to the Toy Story franchise, “Lightyear” tells the story of the space ranger who gave rise to the creation of Andy’s favorite toy: Buzz Lightyear.
Elements (2023)
