A fan theory points to the real reason behind the low number of villains in Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles’ franchise.
In the “The Incredibles” franchise, we are introduced to different superheroes, who had to hide from society due to a new law that prohibited the existence of heroic beings, due to the chaos that their adventures caused in the city, such as the destruction of public spaces.
In “The Incredibles 2” (2018), in addition to the Parr family, other great heroes also end up gaining more prominence, as they all unite in search of the legalization of heroism. However, during both films, something that many fans ended up noticing was the low number of villains.
In the first film, released in 2004, we are introduced to only two antagonists: Syndrome and Digger, who also appears in the 2018 film. In the second, the main antagonist is Screenslaver, also known as “Hypnotist”. With this, it is possible to notice that, compared to the number of heroes, the villains appear in a much smaller size in the story.
But why does this happen?
The answer to this question can be found in a theory shared by a fan on Reddit (via ScreenRant). The post begins by asking whether, while the heroes were in hiding, something may have happened to the villains, since none of them took over the city, which was only protected by standard security agencies, such as the police.
The user explains that, as many villains did not have superpowers, it became easier for the government to deal with them without the help of heroes, as was the case with Excavator, who ended up being defeated by a helicopter shooter.
The theory also points out that, in the past, the government did not intervene in situations, as heroes used to resolve them for free, with Syndrome being the only one who really showed the need for the presence of special powers.
After the criminalization of heroism, public bodies were forced to act. As a solution, the same deal was offered to criminals: keep their weapons and costumes to hide, or face the police force, and could be arrested or killed. From this, it is possible to conclude that many villains may have suffered the same fate as some heroes, and may still be hiding out there.
