Faced with the return of thin clothes, the durability of boots or the appearance of soft denim, a new model of jeans that is not one is shaking the codes again.
The thing has everything of denim: the color, the look, the fit of denim, but… it’s not denim. These are sweatpants, huh? jeans sweatpants as described across the Atlantic: loose, comfortable and denim print to create a trompe-l’oeil effect. Crafted from 100% cotton, these soft and loose pants play the sporty denim game, sporty enough to take on a plane and glamorous enough to pair with a jacket.
In fashion, trompe l’oeil is not revolutionary. As early as 1938, Elsa Schiaparelli collaborated with Salvador Dali to create a dress made of tears, with a print that gave the impression that the fabric had been torn from the body. Recently, in July 2023, Kaia Gerber opened the Valentino Haute Couture show in a reinterpretation of silk carrot jeans embroidered with blue pearls. Then, in September of that year, Kate Moss walked the runway for Bottega Veneta in a larger-than-natural denim effect made of…soft leather. It didn’t take much more than a 1001 denim top to start the denim joggers wave.

Trompe-l’oeil run
The master in this field is the American label Rag & Bone, whose models imitate jeans to perfection. It is also in this brand model that Cate Blanchett caused a sensation on the set of an American TV show in February 2023 with a trompe-jean print jogging suit worn with heels and a blouse with a chick… Proof of success, the brand has developed a complete range, recently adding a long skirt, shorts , several models of pants and a jacket. Faced with the recurring issue of water in the production of jeans, this hybrid alternative could satisfy the most eco-friendly fashionistas.
