Although the MCU has already entered Phase Four, there are some characters that, unfortunately, cannot appear in Marvel films; find out why!
As much as Marvel’s Phase Four is known for bringing together several heroes in a single film, as it kicks off the Multiverse Saga, there are some characters that, unfortunately, cannot appear in the MCU.
This limitation is due to bureaucratic issues between film studios, similar to the agreement between Marvel and Sony regarding Spider-Man. But, in the case of characters like “Conan the Barbarian” and “Rom: The Space Knight”, however, the situation is definitive: both are owned by other studios, and there is no possibility, at this point, of agreements to bring them to the MCU.
Arnold Schwarzeneggerwho brought “Conan the Barbarian” to life in the 1982 live-action film, has already revealed (via Collider) that the film rights are owned by the producer Fredrik Malmberg, who was in charge of the remake in 2011, and Cabinet Entertainment. Check out the trailer for the film, starring Jason Momoa:
In the case of “ROM: The Space Knight”, the situation is more complex. Originally a Hasbro toy, the character became the property of Paramount Pictures due to a partnership with the toy brand, which caused everything to be divided: currently, the rights to the toys are with Paramount, while Marvel only maintains the publishing rights to the stories.
Furthermore, this partnership also excludes the chance of other Hasbro toys that have already been present in Marvel comics from gaining any production under the studio’s name, including the Micronauts, GI Joe and the Transformers.

Something similar also happens with Namor, from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and the hero Hulk, whose rights were purchased by Universal Studios. Because of this, Disney cannot produce any solo films of the characters, unless it directs all the profits to its competitor.
