Discover how Kim Seokjin’s life changed when he became known worldwide as Jin from BTS
On June 13, 2013, the life of the young South Korean Kim Seokjin changed forever, after all, from then on, he would be known worldwide as Jinfrom BTS, since next to Min Yoongi (Sucks), Jung Hoseok (J-Hope), Kim Namjoon (RM), Park Jimin (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V) and Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook), he debuted in the music industry as a k-pop idol with the release of the mini-album “2 Cool 4 Skool”, and the title song (work song) “No More Dream”.
With the arrival of the first live performances, recordings of MVs, appearances on TV shows and interviews for magazines, the anonymous life led by Jin had been left in the past, especially when the group crossed the borders of South Korea and began to be successful around the globe, since, from then on, they performed in countries in North America, South America, Europe, Oceania and Asia, won important music awards such as the Grammy, Billboard Music and Golden Disc, became ambassadors for major brands, as well as participated in major actions organized by the United Nations (UN).
Whether during working hours on stage and in the studio, during leisure time or even when they had to fulfill a civil duty by completing mandatory military enlistment for men in their home country, the members of BTS are always in the spotlight, making it clear that fame can have a difficult price to pay, after all, free time and privacy are difficult to maintain.
It was with this in mind, in fact, that, Jin told, in episode 3 of the documentary “Break The Silence” (via Koreaboo) how his life is different on and off the stage, and how becoming an idol impacted his experiences and connections.
“I think both lives are the same,” he began, “but I don’t live them the same way. I think BTS’s Jin always lives a joyful life.”
He then explained that although he has not lost who he is, some difficulties have come after becoming famous. “As Kim Seokjinnot much has changed for me, and I am living a very happy life. But as Jin from BTS, life can be a little difficult on the other side. If you win a little, you lose a little.”
These adversities occurred mainly in the context of friendship, since Jin revealed that he lost many people close to him when debuting with BTS.
There’s a lot of pressure to meet people. I haven’t changed, but my friends find it hard to be around me. It’s a shame to see them distance themselves from me. I’ve lost a lot of people around me.”
Despite the pain of not having people around that I could count on before, Jin He said that there are other people who will be responsible for giving him the strength to continue in the music industry: his fans, the ARMYs.
What makes me who I am now is our fans, ARMY, and they are the reason why I can make music. Because so many people love seeing me on stage, and because I can make so many people happy, I get happy through them. That’s why I want to perform even more.”
