The Only Marvel Movies That Won an Oscar

Discover which productions have received the Marvel seal and have already won golden statuettes at the biggest awards ceremony in world cinema: the Oscars

This Saturday, the 31st, marks the 85th anniversary of Marvel Comics, the largest comic book publisher in the world, since, on that same date, in 1939, “Marvel Comics #1” was published, a comic that introduced the first heroes of the label: Human Torch and Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

Since then, Marvel has launched hundreds of remarkable characters, including heroes like Captain America and Thor; villains like Thanos and Loki, and anti-heroes like the Punisher and the Winter Soldier, who, in addition to starring in their own stories on the pages, have also gained versions in cinema and on TV, the most recent of which is “Deadpool & Wolverine”, a live-action film that premiered on July 25.

It is worth remembering that the first adaptation of a Marvel story on the big screen came with “Howard, the Super-Hero” (Howard the Duck, in the original), from 1986, whose plot is based on the homonymous comic created by Steve Gerberas reported by the CBR portal.

Thus, almost 40 years ago, several plots inspired by the seal’s comics were released on the big screen. Among them, some were so memorable that they were even nominated for the biggest award in world cinema: the Oscar, as happened with “The Avengers”, “Iron Man 3”, “Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Doctor Strange”, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”.

More than just nominations, three films managed to take home golden statuettes; find out which ones below!

The other two categories competed for by the feature film, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguirewere: Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

Also a result of the partnership between Columbia Pictures, Laura Ziskin Productions and Marvel Pictures, distributed by Sony Pictures, in 2018 the animation “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was released, responsible for introducing Miles Morales, the web-slinging hero from Earth-1610, for the first time in theaters.

The plot won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 2019 ceremony.

BLACK PANTHER

In addition to titles in partnership with other studios, Marvel became an independent producer and began to produce its own adaptations with the opening of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse, where stories belonging to different franchises and formats end up connecting.

The MCU was launched in 2008 with the release of the feature film “Iron Man”, opening the doors for the arrival of more than forty projects, including films and series, which premiered on the big and small screens. However, the only Marvel film to compete in the Best Picture category was “Black Panther” (2018).

Directed by Ryan Cooglerthe plot, which introduced the late actor Chadwick Boseman as the holder of the Black Panther mantle, competed in seven categories and, despite not winning the main one, was named the winner in three others: Best Original Score, for Ludwing Goransson; Best Costume Design, for Ruth E. Carte and Best Production Design, shared between the set designer Jay Hart and the art director Hannah Beachler.
